school-related tasks.
Prerequisite Knowledge

Entry Task (Diagnostic Test)
The Entry Task (Diagnostic Test) is a Baseline Test which assesses the student’s prior/prerequisite knowledge, skill level, and gaps of
missing information.
The test will be available on the Loop Learning platform for schools enrolled in Loop Learning. The test can be conducted through
Google Forms for schools not yet on Loop Learning.
Self-learning PPTs and videos for students who score less than 60% will be available on the platform. These resources are designed to
help students bridge their learning gaps.

to identify the features of GIMP
to download and install GIMP
to identify the GIMP window modes and its parts
to open an image for editing
to find information about your image
to save an image
to export an image in a different image formats

Students will watch the following video on Loop Learning platform.
i. Vid 1_CB_VII_CS_Ch. 5 Pixels and GIMP Interface
ii. Vid 2_CB_VII_CS_Ch. 5 Saving your Image
Classroom Activities
Introduction
Begin the session by asking the following questions.
i. What is the purpose of GIMP software?
ii. What did you find interesting about GIMP from the videos?
iii. Can anyone describe what the toolbox in GIMP does?
iv. Why is it important to save images in different formats (e.g., JPEG, PNG)?
Briefly review the GIMP interface using the projector.
Highlight key features (customizable interface, support for various formats, saving in XCF, etc.).
Tip: Encourage students to ask questions based on what they saw in the videos.
Hands-On Activity: GIMP Exploration
Task 1: Opening an Image
Instruct students to open an image in GIMP.
Ask students to explore the toolbox and menu bar.
Discuss basic image properties (resolution, color mode, etc.) by going to Image > Image Properties.
Task 2: Saving a GIMP File
Instruct students to save the file in GIMPs native format (.xcf).
Guided Practice: Image Editing
Task 1: Scaling an Image
Demonstrate the steps to scale an image via Image > Scale Image.
Discuss the concept of proportional scaling, and let them experiment with different sizes.
Task 2: Exporting an Image
Demonstrate the steps to export the image as a JPEG or PNG using File > Export As.
Allow them to adjust quality settings and see the difference in file size and image quality.
Independent Activity
Task:
Provide an image to the students.
Ask students to import it into GIMP, adjust the size, and then save it in XCF format.
Instruct the student to export the image as a JPEG or PNG.
Concepts/Sub Topics

Learning Outcome
Students will be able to:
to select parts of an image using the Selection tools
to draw and paint over images using the Paint tools
to erase parts of an image using the Eraser tool
to repair an image using Clone and Heal tools
to blur or sharpen parts of an image
to smudge parts of an image
to lighten or darken parts of an image
to crop an image

Open a new or existing image in GIMP (this could be a free image from the internet or a simple photo of a landscape,
animal, etc.).
Select an area of the image using the Fuzzy Select tool (which selects based on colour) or Scissors Select tool (which traces
around the edges).
After selecting an area, use the Paintbrush or Airbrush tool to paint or add texture to the selected portion of the image.
Experiment with different brush sizes and opacity levels to create different effects on the image.
Try using the Bucket Fill tool to change the background or other larger areas of the image.
Play around with changing colours, adding shading, or creating artistic effects.
Open any image (this can be one you have already worked on, or download a free image from an online source).
Experiment with the Transform tools in GIMP:
Rotate: Rotate the image or a selected part of it.
Scale: Resize part of the image, making an object larger or smaller.
Flip: Flip part of the image horizontally or vertically.
Shear: Skew the image to create a slanted effect.
Apply the Rotate and Flip tools to create mirrored or rotated versions of an object in the image.
Use the Scale tool to enlarge or shrink a specific object in the image.
Use the Shear tool to give a distorted or abstract look to one of the objects.
Combine multiple transform tools to modify the image in a creative way.
Classroom Activities
Introduction
Discuss with the students about what they learned from the videos and the tasks they performed.
Clarify concepts such as Selection tools, Paint tools and Transform tools.
Ask students the following questions:
i. What is the difference between a Paint tool and a Selection tool?
How can the Transform tool help you edit an image?
ii.
Hands-On Activity: GIMP Exploration
Guided Activity 1: Selection Tools
Demonstrate and explain the use of different selection tools in GIMP.
Activity:
Ask students to open a provided image in GIMP and use the Rectangle Select tool to draw a rectangle on the image.
Use the Free Select tool to select an irregular area.
Use the selection tools to highlight specific areas in the image
Help the students wherever required.
Instruct students to complete Activity 3 given in the textbook.
Demonstrate and explain the use of different the Paint tools in GIMP.
Activity:
Ask students to use the Bucket Fill and Paintbrush tools to change the colour of specific areas of the image selected in the
previous activity.
Fill the selection with a color using the Bucket Fill tool and then use the Paintbrush tool to draw inside the selection.
Encourage students to explore different brush sizes and stroke types
Instruct students to complete Activity 3 given in the textbook.
Assessment
Use Exit test 2 (on loop)
Complete Lab Activity given in the textbook.
Ask students to complete the worksheet for the given chapter.
Homework:
Ask students to select an image from their family photos, use the selection and paint tools to highlight specific elements
(such as a person or object), and share the edited image in the next class.
Ask students to complete the Lab Activity 4 and 5 given in the textbook
