EVALUATION PROCEDURES AND GRADING CRITERIA
The grade in this course will be a compilation of exams, quizzes, assignments, and
participation.
 Exams (75%): Five (5) major exams will be assigned online; four lecture
examinations and a comprehensive departmental final. All exams will be
available online through the McGraw Hill website or Blackboard. Up to 5 points
of extra credit on each major exam may be earned throughout the semester via
the McGraw-Hill Connect Website using Smart Book. Extra credit is awarded
class wide, and it is up to the student to do what is required to earn that extra
credit. There is NO INDIVIDUAL extra credit.
 Quizzes (25%): Quizzes are administered on-line via the McGraw-Hill Connect
website.
o They are timed and there is a time limit to get them completed. The
student is responsible for this.
o **Help Line** 1-800-331-5094
o A hyperlink to your class McGraw-Hill Connect Website will be available
on Blackboard.

Proctorio Software for Exams

 Proctorio is a Learning Integrity resource

o This course will use Proctorio, a browser-locking and remote proctoring
solution designed to protect the integrity of this course’s assessments,
within some of your Connect assignments. As your instructor, I’ve chosen
the secure exam settings required by this course, and only I will make a
judgment as to any potential academic integrity violation.
 Assignments with Proctorio

4
o You’ll be able to see which assignments in Connect include Proctorio
settings because they will be clearly labeled with “Proctoring Enabled” in
the assignment title. The settings that I use may vary depending on the
assignment. When you start a proctored assignment, the settings in use
will be indicated.
 Proctorio Minimum System Requirements
o Proctorio offers a flexible service, which may include recording of video,
audio, and screen activity or none of the above. The Proctorio system
requirements are dependent on the exam settings and may require a
webcam and a microphone. Test takers are encouraged to use a practice
exam to test their system prior to taking an exam. Virtual machines and
proxy connections will not work.
 Equity and Fairness
o The reason I’ve chosen to enable Proctorio settings for specific
assignments in this course is to make education more equal by allowing
each student to earn the grades they deserve. The US Federal
Government also requires that all schools have a process in place for
verifying student identity to protect against Federal Student Aid (FSA)
fraud.
 Privacy
o Proctorio is a trusted resource for remote proctoring because of the
company’s commitment to student privacy. Proctorio uses single sign-on
through Connect, and only I or approved individuals, here at our
institution, will have access to your exam data. Proctorio never requires
personally identifiable information from students, and Proctorio will never
sell your data to third parties. Read more about Proctorio’s approach to
privacy.
 Security
o Proctorio only runs as an extension in your Chrome browser. This means
that Proctorio works within a sandbox and has limited access to your
computer system, unlike traditionally installed software applications that
have complete access to your computer’s hard drive, or other resources.
o Proctorio does not continuously run in Connect. Proctorio only runs while
you are taking your proctored Connect assignment. After your proctored
assignment ends, you may uninstall the extension by right-clicking on it, to
bring you peace of mind. Just remember, if you choose to do this, you’ll
need to reinstall the extension again before starting your next proctored
assignment.
o All student data is kept safe using zero-knowledge encryption, meaning
student data is scrambled and unreadable by anyone outside of our
institution’s learning platform. Proctorio cannot see your proctored
assignment data. Read more about Proctorio security.
 Getting Started
o Before getting started on your first proctored assignment, please watch
the Student Orientation Video on Proctorio, and then make sure to follow
the instructions in Proctorio’s Quick Start Test Taker Guide for the

5
extension. To verify your computer system meets the requirements, take
the practice quiz. This will ensure that everything will run smoothly on the
day of the proctored assignment.
o If, after reading the Quick Start Test Taker Guide, you have any trouble
while using Connect & Proctorio, you can access quick help guides or
reach out to Connect or Proctorio support for troubleshooting. Support can
assist in troubleshooting any extension related issues before, during, and
after your proctored assignment.
 Requirements for using Proctorio
o Functioning computer camera.
o Functioning computer microphone.
o Reliable internet connection.
 This is a class the requires access to the internet, especially during
the time of taking your exam. If you know your home internet isn’t
reliable, you need to plan accordingly.
 Violations of the exam policies will result in your score being manually overridden
with a zero. See appropriate exam behavior below.
o Proper desk/room scan.
o Clean desk with nothing extra on it.
 No notes, books, phones allowed during the exam.
o Proper student framing and environment.
 Student should be framed in the camera throughout the exam with
proper room lighting. Leaving camera range or turning away from
the camera are also not acceptable.
 Student should take their exam at a table and not change location
throughout the exam. Taking and exam in a car or in a bed is not
acceptable.
 Room should be quiet without extra people, pets, or noise.
 Room should be well lit allowing easy observation of the student.
o Odd behavior
 Students reading off screen
 Students using AI technology to ask questions
 Students reaching off screen to access notes or cell phones
 Sounds of pages turning while student is looking off screen.
o **For all intents and purposes, taking your exam should reflect the same
environment as a college classroom. Extraneous people, pets, and noise
would not be allowed in a classroom. A cell phone wouldn’t be allowed.
Notes or access to a textbook would not be allowed during the exam.
Leaving the classroom or changing the location of where you are taking
your exam would not be allowed.**

Turning in assignments:
Ms. Williams does not accept late work. Assignments must be turned in on time. All
assignments are available online through McGraw-Hill Connect with additional links for
these assignments through Blackboard. Smart Book Modules and Homework

6
assignments are both due as scheduled above. If they are not completed by that time,
no credit will be awarded.
If you are having issues getting to or using the McGraw-Hill Website please use the
Help line at 1-800-331-5094. While I can do a limited amount to help you, if it is a
bigger issue, they will have to help you to get your computer to interface with the
software.

ATTENDANCE STATEMENT
Because this is an online class I will take weekly attendance(Friday), by checking
blackboard for your online activity and if you are not checking in to our class
weekly, you may be dropped from the course for non-attendance. All lectures
will be recorded and available to you as soon as they are recorded. You will have
access to them 24 hours a day. I will be available to answer questions or clarify any
confusion at your course’s assigned time via Lifesize, or you can email or text me at
any time. While I am willing to stay online for as long as necessary with students for
our Lifesize tutoring meetings, if no one shows up to “face to face class” I will log off
after 10 minutes so that I can work on other class material.
