Manual Report on Compass Swing

Project Title: Compass Swing Procedure and Analysis

Head of the Project: Sunil Sir

Guidance By: Amit Sir

Prepared By:

2. Aisha Anjum

3. Zeeshan Ahmad

Introduction

The compass swing is an essential procedure in aviation to ensure the accuracy of the aircraft's

magnetic compass. The process involves calibrating the compass to eliminate deviation caused by

local magnetic fields within the aircraft.

Objectives

- To calibrate the aircraft's magnetic compass.

- To ensure compliance with aviation safety standards.

- To identify and minimize errors due to magnetic interference.

Equipment Required

1. Aircraft with a magnetic compass.

2. Compass calibration pad or area.

3. Reference compass.

4. Ground personnel for assistance.

Procedure

1. Preliminary Checks:
- Ensure the aircraft is parked on a designated compass calibration area.

- Verify the area is free from magnetic interference (e.g., metal objects, electronic devices).

2. Alignment:

- Align the aircraft with a specific magnetic heading using a reference compass.

- Record the reading on the aircraft's compass.

3. Swinging the Compass:

- Rotate the aircraft to different headings (e.g., North, East, South, West).

- Record the readings for each heading.

4. Deviation Correction:

- Compare the aircraft compass readings with the reference compass.

- Adjust the compass to minimize deviation using compensating screws if necessary.

5. Final Verification:

- Perform a final check to ensure all headings are accurate.

- Document the deviations and corrections for future reference.

Observations

- Deviations observed on each heading.

- Adjustments made to correct the deviations.

- Final accuracy of the compass after calibration.

Conclusion

The compass swing procedure ensures the magnetic compass operates within acceptable limits of

accuracy. This calibration process is vital for safe and reliable navigation.
