Title:
Structural analysis of Cantilever 3D I-beam with uniformly distributed load.
Objectives:
Evaluate shear stress on the front face.
Analyze shear stress throughout the entire body.
Generate a shear stress chart along the path connecting the diagonals of the top and
side faces.
Analyze normal stress on the front face.
Analyze normal stress across the body.
Calculate the equivalent stress within the body.
Apparatus:
Ansys Workbench 18.1
Procedure:
1. I launched Ansys Workbench and added the Static Structural module in the program
window.
2. Next, I right-clicked on Geometry and selected Edit with Design Modeler.
3. I then drew a horizontal line and set its dimension to 100 mm.
4. In the Concept section, I selected Cross Section, chose the I-Shape cross section,
and entered the required dimensions.
5. After that, I created a line in Sketches and applied the cross-section to it.
6. I opened the Model window.
7. I generated the default mesh.
8. I applied boundary conditions to the beam, including fixed support and a 2000 N
force in the -Y direction.
9. I right-clicked on Solution and selected Solve.
10. I then went to Solution and added the necessary charts and stress results.
11. Finally, I captured screenshots of all the results.

Conclusions:
This experiment met the main objectives, including analyzing shear stress on
both the front face and body, creating a shear stress profile, and assessing normal and
equivalent stresses. The findings offered valuable insights into stress distribution and
structural resilience, affirming the I-beam's capacity to handle the applied load. Using Finite
Element Analysis (FEA) enabled a detailed assessment of the beam’s performance, validating
theoretical predictions and emphasizing the importance of accurate boundary conditions and
mesh refinement in modeling. Overall, this experiment underscored the integration of
theoretical knowledge with practical computational tools to evaluate and optimize structural
designs.
