Lesson 10
Lesson 10
New Words:
1. Mechanical Force
2. Muscular force
3. Gravitational force
4. Frictional force
5. Simple machine
6. Lever
7. Pulley
8. Axle
9. Inclined plane
10. Wedge
Definitions:
1. Force – a push or a pull that can make a body move or stop moving.
4. Friction – the force that slows down or stops the motion of an object, when the surface of that
object comes in contact with the surface of another
5. Pulley – a wheel with a rope around it, used to lift or move heavy things easily.
A. Solar energy, atomic energy, geothermal energy, wind energy and water energy.
2. Write the name of the force exerted by the muscles of our body.
A. Muscular force.
A. The force by which the earth pulls an object towards it is called gravitational force.
A. Often we have to use some tools to do some work. Such tools are called simple machines.
6. What are the different forms of energy into which solar energy can be changed?
A. The solar energy can be changed into heat energy, light energy and electrical energy.
A. An atom is the smallest particle of matter. Atomic energy comes from the splitting of an atom.
Atomic energy should be used for mankind. For example, atomic energy is used for producing
electricity. However, weapons like atom bombs, which can kill lakhs of people, have also been
made and used.
A. The hot interior of the earth is another important source of energy. This energy is called
geothermal energy.
10. Write two machines being used at home in which one form of energy is changed into
another.
A. In loudspeakers sound energy is changed to electrical energy and then this electrical energy
is changed into sound energy. In electric motors electrical energy is changed into mechanical
energy.
