Assignment 2

Slope Deflection MethoD

Note:: Each problem applies loads based on the student's ID, using the last two digits of
the ID to determine the magnitude of various loads:
1. Concentric Load - Calculated as (last 2 digits of ID)×10(\text{last 2 digits of ID})
\times 10(last 2 digits of ID)×10 kN.
2. Uniformly Distributed (UD) Load - Calculated as (last 2 digits of ID)×10(\text{last
2 digits of ID}) \times 10(last 2 digits of ID)×10 kN/m.
3. Moment - Calculated as (last 2 digits of ID)×10(\text{last 2 digits of ID}) \times
10(last 2 digits of ID)×10 kN-m.

1. Determine the moments at points A, B, and C.

2. Determine the internal moments at the supports of the beam, as shown in Fig. The
support at B is displaced (settles) ID/1000 mm. E = 200 kN/mm2 and I = 1.8225 x 1010
mm4.

3. Determine the internal moments in the beam at the supports

4. Analyze the continuous beam shown in Fig. Draw bending moment and shear force
diagrams. Draw the elastic curve also.

5. Analyze the fixed beam shown in Fig. Draw bending moment and shear force diagrams.

6. The slope-deflection method for beams Nodes A and C are fixed and do not have any
degrees of freedom (DOFs). Node B cannot move horizontally since it is restrained by
members AB and BC, which are both fixed horizontally. Node B is also restrained from
moving vertically due to the roller support at that location; however, node B can rotate.

7. Analyze the following beam using the slope-deflection method. Draw shear and
moment diagrams—sketch elastic curve. Take I = 400 x 10^-6 m^4 & E = 200 x 10^6
kN/m^2

8. Determine the support reactions in the beam shown below. EI is constant throughout.
