5 MCU of Teacher Now, let us delve deeper on our
DISCUSSIO topic on:
N PART Title appears
(10 “How heat transferred in solid
minutes) “How heat transferred in materials”
solid materials”
Let us see how heat travel in
solid materials in this simple
experiment.

Activity 1 The materials we need in this

activity are Candle, match,
(Show Video clip of the spoon and crayon.
activity with the
procedure) Procedure:
* Light the candle.
* Put the crayon in the spoon.
* Place the spoon above the
flame.
* Observe what will happen.

Now let us answer the guide

questions in our experiment.
Show the guide questions
then the answers:
Guide question:
*What happen to the crayons?
(Pause)
Correct!
-the crayon was melted.
*Why do you think its melted?
(Pause)
Very good!
-The heat from the flame
transferred to the spoon that’s
makes it hot.
(Clap sound)
It shows in the activity, that
the heat from the flame of the
candle transferred to the spoon
and makes the crayons melts.
That’s how heat transferred in
solid materials and we called it
conduction.
Show definition of Conduction- is the heat
Conduction transfer through a substance or
from substance to another by
direct contact.
Everything is made of small
Show illustration particles. When the particles
move faster, there is more
energy and the temperature is
higher.
As fast moving particles touch
slow moving particles, the
energy is transferred.
Examples of conduction are when
we are cooking our food, the
heat from the stove transfer to
the utensils. Another is when we
ironing our clothes, the heat
from iron transfer to the
clothes.
Kids let’s do another
experiment.
Show the activity
All we need are ceramic mug,
metal spoon and hot water.
Procedure:
1. Pour hot water in the mug.
2. Place the metal spoon into
the mug.
3. Wait for 5 minutes and
carefully feel the exposed part
of spoon.
Show the guide questions (timer)
and answers
Guide questions:
*What happen to the exposed part
of metal spoon?
Correct
Its became hot.
*What did you notice to the
outside part of the mug?
Very good!
It is not that hot compare to
the metal spoon.
(Clapping sound effect)
It shows in the 2nd experiment
that the heat from the boiling
water easily transferred to the
metal spoon, while its slowly
Conductors- (show pictures) transferred in the ceramic mug.

Conductors- are materials that

Insulators- (show pictures) allows heat flow easily.
Examples are metals like Iron,
gold, silver, coppers and
aluminum.
Insulators- are materials that
makes heat flow slowly or not at
all. Examples are ceramics,
rubbers, plastics and woods.
So dear learners that’s how the
heat transfer in solid
materials.
