BIOS Module LEDs

The BIOS provides LEDs on the top to identify status information.

Figure 20 BIOS Module Example

The following table provides information about the BIOS module LED indicator lights:
Table 13 BIOS Module LED Indicators
LED Color Meaning
Power Red When illuminated, the BIOS/ JUR SPI module has been properly inserted and the CPU power is
on.
POST Start Yellow When illuminated, the BIOS has begun the boot-up process, and POST is executing.
POST Done Green When POST has successfully completed the green LED is illuminated and control is transferred
to the UBE loader to validate the media.
Validation Pass Blue When illuminated, the UBE loader has completed the validation of the media and the image is
deemed valid. The UBE then transfers the control to the OS/ game. If any of the media fails to
validate, the LED remains unlit and the control is not transferred.

CPU Troubleshooting

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What are these error messages?

For detailed error message information, see your ArgOS 2.X Operating System Service Manual and User Guide (part number
1458262).

Where can I find more CPU information?

For information on earlier versions of CPU-4X, see the CPU-4X Control Subsystem Service Manual and User Guide (part
number 1456703).

Why doesn’t the game work after turning on the machine?

Confirm the following:
 All cables are connected properly.
 With the CPU-4X door closed, the four power LEDs are lit (3.3V, 5V,12V, and POWER GOOD).
 If power indicator LEDs are not lit, set the game Power Switch to OFF and verify that CPU-4X is properly seated.
 BIOS/JUR SPI module is installed and fully seated.

Why did the CPU overheat?

The fan assembly may not be functioning. Confirm that the fan assembly is correctly installed and fully seated in the
backplane receptacle.

Why is the game not starting up when the power is on?

The CPU components may not be working correctly. Confirm the following:
 The 3.3V, 5V, 12V, and POWER GOOD power indicator LEDs illuminate when the machine power switch is on.
 The BIOS SPI module is installed correctly.
 The BIOS SPI module socket connector is not damaged.
 The LEDs on the BIOS SPI module indicate no errors. See BIOS Module LEDs on page 26.
 The RAM module is present, correctly installed, and free of debris.
 The RAM module is working correctly when exchanged with a working RAM module.

Why do I see clear NVRAM messages during a RAM clear?

The CPU components may not be working correctly. Confirm the following:
 BIOS SPI module EPROM is installed and in the proper orientation. If not, replace it.
 All the pins of the SPI EPROM are undamaged and inserted into their corresponding sockets.
 The non-conductive battery tabs are removed.

Is there any other troubleshooting analysis available?

Yes. An authorized Scientific Games Technician can capture application data for forensic analysis. For additional
information, see your ArgOS 2.X Operating System Service Manual and User Guide (part number 1458262).

The backplane board is the main signal and power interconnector between the CPU board and most cabinet
components. The backplane board interfaces the CPU board with the remainder of the machine and distributes signals
and power.
The location of the backplane board is at the back of the CPU assembly and power supply docking station.

your machine.

Power Supply Overview

A machine receives line power from a floor or wall outlet. The power supply converts the incoming power from AC to DC
required for machine components. A power supply can provide multiple DC voltages. All machines contain one or more
power supplies to provide power to the CPU Board and other cabinet components through the backplane board. The
power supply connects to the cabinet through receptacles at the back of the backplane housing assembly, without
using additional cables.
The location of the power supply is at the left of the backplane housing assembly.

2 Insert the new fan tray assembly into the fan housing.
3 Ensure the fan tray assembly is seated securely in the fan housing.

Replacing the DC Power Module

Use the following instructions to replace the DC power module:
 Required Tools
 Nut Driver, 7mm
1 Remove three 7mm nuts securing the DC power module by using nut driver. Save the nuts for future use.
2 Remove the DC power module.

 Spare Parts on page 50

NOTE
For additional spare parts and maintenance information for your machine, see
your cabinet Service Manual and User Guide.

CPU Periodic Maintenance

Maintenance Interval: As needed
 Power the EGM off and move the CPU to an ESD-protected area.
 Clean the CPU enclosure vents from the interior and exterior to remove accumulated dust and debris using a
soft, lint-free, static-free cloth. Do not drop any dust on the CPU main board.
 Inspect the CPU main board. If any dust is visible, then use short bursts of compressed air o remove it. Do not
touch or wipe the components or board.

CPU Lock Maintenance

Maintenance Service Interval: 90 days
 Check connections of switches for loose or frayed wires.
 Add a small amount of graphite if the key does not turn easily.
 Check that all lock hardware is secure, yet allowing the lock to work smoothly.
