The Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU, Shimla), was established by the State Government in the year 2016,
by an Act of the Legislature (Act 16 of 2016). The University started functioning from 5th of October, 2016. The first batch of

Located in the geographical terrains of Himalayas,HPNLU, Shimla, is the best place for study and learning in law, developing in
students, understanding about law and legal system, topographies of law making, legal practice, and administration. Perhaps,
climatic conditions and environmental privileges of its placement, makes the University one of the most sought-after law
education institutions within three years of its coming into existence. The institution has attracted excellent set of teachers from
all over India. The University is committed to provide inter disciplinary and practical/application based legal education keeping
in view the requirements of overall developments of its students.
VISION OF HPNLU
• Preparing leaders for law and law related professions through integrated curriculum that emphasizes academic excellence and
acceptability.
• Providing academically excellent, time-efficient and productive legal education in India.
• Striving to be an internationally recognized leader in socially relevant legal research and education in India and abroad.
CIPR is a newly established centre in the HPNLU family. The institution has strived to establish itself as the
Nodal Center for Academics and Professionalism in legal education, but is yet to specialise in Intellectual
Property Rights. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) is a burgeoning research field.
Considering the expansive scope of Agriculture-IPR, Sports, Health, and Music Industries in the northern
region of the country, Education, Promotion, and Protection of Intellectual Property Rights are the region's
most pressing needs in a globalised, competitive world. This will improve the economic status of stakeholders
and the state economy by educating, strengthening, and enhancing the industrialists' capabilities. HPNLU’s
aim is to create an enabling environment by modernising the IPR infrastructure and implementing various
programmes to raise awareness among professionals and the general public will be a stepping stone to
success. Any academic/research activity necessitates quality human resources to manage the research
positions in terms of financial and technical support in order to conduct any substantive research using a
multidisciplinary approach in the field of Intellectual Property, and HPNLU is the ideal institution in this
regard. Therefore, we believe that HPNLU should conduct research in the field of intellectual property on a
variety of socio-legal and socio-economic parameters, social strata, technological fields, R&D trends, etc.
