F4 - MATH Chapter 1
- A quadratic expression will have one variable. The highest degree of variable is 2.
- A quadratic expression is an expression in the form ax2 + bx + c, a is not zero; and a, b and c are
constants and x is a variable.
- If a vertical line which is parallel to y-axis intersects the curve only once, the curve is a graph of a
function. If vertical line intersects the curve more than once then the curve is not a graph of function.
- In a quadratic expression f(x)= ax2 + bx + c, if a is +ve then curve is 'upward' like 'U', if -ve then
curve is 'downward' like "n". The axis of symmetric of the graph is represented as x= -b ;
2a
c represents intersect at f(x).

- Not all the quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0 can be solved by factorisation. Alternatively, the root
can be determined by quadratic formula,
