Addition strategies Level A Week

Sample Module
Adding 1 to a number:

To add 1 to a number simply count 1 more number


to the given number
6+1=7

Adding 2 to a number:

To add 2 to a number simple count 2 more number to the given


number
5+2=7

Doubling plus 1 strategy:

If you know the double of a number then adding one more is easy

5 + 6 = 5 + (5 + 1) = (5 + 5) +1 = 11
6 + 7 = 6 + (6 + 1) = (6 + 6) + 1 = 13

Strategies help you to add numbers fast.


You can use your own strategy to add single digit numbers.

Just add the number 3 to 0 in the units place.
