Culture encompasses shared beliefs, values, customs, behaviors, and traditions, including language,

food, clothing, music, and art. Cultural tourism, a growing sector, focuses on experiencing customs,
traditions, and lifestyles. It includes urban tourism in historic cities with museums and theaters, rural
tourism showcasing indigenous traditions like festivals and rituals, and niches such as industrial and
creative tourism. Cultural tourists typically spend more than standard tourists, driving global growth. An
OECD report emphasizes cultural tourism’s role in regional development worldwide. Cultural tourism
involves traveling to cultural attractions to satisfy cultural needs, often reinforcing personal identity by
observing others. With roots in the grand tour, it is among the oldest forms of tourism. The WTO states it
constitutes 37% of global tourism and predicts 50% annual growth. A European Commission study
reveals Europeans visit museums abroad as frequently as at home, highlighting its importance. Despite
challenges distinguishing holiday cultural visits from local ones, policymakers consider it vital for
economic and cultural support.
