Part 1: Career goal

Three careers that I have identified as possible choices are continuing working as a health
care assistant, working as a phlebotomist, and opening a healthcare agency. I have been
working as a health care assistant for over two years in the private sector. However, due to
the long hours it is no longer suitable for me as it leaves me with little time to spend with
my family. The 12-hour shifts were also exhausting. Working as a phlebotomist is an
alternate option as before applying to university I passed in a theory and dry lab
phlebotomy course. It would allow me to spend time with my family as well as to carry on
with my studies due to the suitable hours. However, this would be a short-term career
choice while in university because I hope to achieve my aim of opening a healthcare agency
once I finish this degree.
In terms of my main career choice, as mentioned previously, I would like to succeed in my
aim of opening a health care agency. My motivation for this choice is the fact that I would
be in my charge of my own business allowing for more flexible working hours meaning I
would be able to spend more time with my family. Relating to the health of the industry and
the job opportunities in this market, this career would be very suitable because the UK has
an aging population resulting in the need for health care services due to the demand for
nursing care agency staff. According to career zone, the challenges the NHS is expected to
face in the future will undoubtedly create the conditions for a competitive healthcare
industry in which private healthcare and investment will increasingly rise to prominence.
This means opening a health care agency could indeed be successful and means I would be
able to find lots of patients.
In addition, I have the educational, emotional, and physical characteristics and demands
needed in this career due to more experience as health care assistant. For example, I have a
compassion for patients as well as a clear understanding of the services that I would be
providing. In terms of geographical location, opening a health care agency would be suitable
for me because I would be able to work from home.
