STEP 1 (Server and Client)

CHECK COMPUTER’S IP ADDRESS USING CMD


1.1 - Press Win + R, type “cmd”
1.2 - type ipconfig to check the PC’s IP Address
1.3 - type ping + the server’s IP Address or Client’s IP Address ex: ping 192.168.1.20 and vice versa
1.4 - it will return Request Time out, this is not successful
1.5 - to make a successful communication with other computers you must turn off your computer’s
Windows Firewall and TURN ON NETWORK SHARING in your system.

STEP 2 (Server and Client)

TURN OFF WINDOWS FIREWALL


- Go to Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Defender Firewall
- click Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off
- select Public Network Setting OFF and Private Network Setting OFF, click OK

TURN ON ADVANCED SHARING SETTINGS


- Go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced Sharing
Settings
- Expand Private Network and select Turn on Network Discovery and Turn on file and printing
sharing
- Expand Guest or Public Network, select Turn on Network Discovery and Turn on file and
printing sharing
- Expand All Network, select turn off password protected sharing, the rest is on.

STEP 3 (Server and Client)

CREATE A STATIC IP ADDRESS


- Go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections select Ethernet
- Right Click Ethernet, Properties
- On the Networking Tab, double click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
- On the General Tab, select Use the following IP Address (STATIC IP)
- On IP Address, input/assign this IP Address 192.168.1.20 (for Server) and 192.168.1.21 (for Client),
press Tab
then press OK.
- Perform the Peer-to-Peer by repeating the STEP 1 using the assigned Static IP addresses of Client
and Server.

STEP 4 (Server)

CONFIGURE THIS LOCAL SERVER


- perform this step after the successful Peer-to-Peer connection
- On the Server’s PC “DASHBOARD”, configure the Step 1 and Step 2 displayed on the Server’s
Dashboard
- Click Step 1, “Configure this Local Server”, and enable Remote Desktop then click Allow. Wait
for less than 3 mins.

ADD ROLES AND FEATURES


- important initial configuration of Server that needs to be installed are the following ADDS, DNS,
DHCP, and File Services
- Click Step 2, “Add roles and features”, install roles, next, next, next, and select ACTIVE
DIRECTORY DOMAIN SERVICES, next, add, next, next, install. Wait for less than 10 mins. to finish
the installation.
- after successful installation of ADDS, on the upper right on your screen click the notification icon,
select promote this server to a domain controller
- On Deployment Configuration Window, select Deployment Configuration, and select Add a
new forest
- On root domain name, enter a domain name ex: cpc.com, next, enter a password: P@ssword, next,
next, next, next, next, install (it takes 10-15 mins)

INSTALLATION OF DHCP
- Click Step 2, “Add roles and features”, next, next, next, and select DHCP Server on Server Roles,
next, next, next, install
- Click notification icon on the upper right of your screen, click next, commit

STEP 5 (Server)

CREATE IP ADDRESS ON CLIENT’S COMPUTER


- On Server Manger Dashboard, Click DHCP on the left side of your screen
- right click on the available server, select DHCP Manager
- On DCHP Manager, select IPv4 and it will display Add a Scope
- On Action tab, click DHCP and select New Scope, next
- On New Scope Wizard, enter the scope name (cssscope), next
- On IP Address Range, enter the Start IP Address: ex. 192.168.1.21 up to End IP Address: 192.168.1.30
(for 10 clients range), click next, next, next, next, next, next, next, next, next

STEP 6 (Client)

SETTING UP A DYNAMIC IP ADDRESS


- Go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connection, right click Ethernet and select
Properties
- On the Networking Tab, double click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
- On the General Tab, select Obtain an IP address automatically, click OK, a NETWORK will
appear on the right side of your screen, cpc.com, click YES.

STEP 7 (Client)

JOIN DOMAIN
- Go to Control Panel\System and Security\System, click Change Settings
- On System Properties dialog box, click Change
- On Computer Name/Domain Changes, click Change Domain and enter domain name cpc.com,
press ENTER
- the Server credentials will appear, you have to log-on the username (Administrator) and password
(P@ssword) of the Server, click ok, ok, ok, restart now.

STEP 8 (Server)

CREATE LOCAL USER


- Go to Windows Administrative Tools, configure only the two important tools: Active Directory
Users and Computers and Group Policy Management
- to create users, click Active Directory Users and Computers, double click cpc.com domain on
the left side of your screen
- right click Users, New, User
- enter the credential of the new user (Lname, Fname, User log-on name user1), next, enter the
password: P@ssword, select “user cannot change password”, “Password never expires”, next, finish

CREATE ADMINISTRATOR USER


- to create administrator users, click Active Directory Users and Computers
- Right click the Administrator, select copy, enter the credential of the administrator user ex: user2

STEP 9 (Client)

LOG-IN CREATED LOCAL USER


- On your screen press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, select Other User, use the local user’s credentials ex:
username (log-on name) and password (P@ssword)

STEP 10 (Server)

CREATE FOLDER REDIRECTION


- On your desktop, create new folder (redirection folder)
- right click the redirection folder, select properties
- On the redirection folder properties, select Sharing tab, click Share…
- On Network access, click the drop down arrow and select Everyone, Permission Level: Read/Write,
click press Share, select Done
- On redirection Properties, click Advanced Sharing…,
- Go to Administrative Tools
- Select Group policy Management
- Double click Forest -> Domains
- Select your Domain ex: CPC.COM
- Click in the details tab and click Edit
- Select User configuration -> Policies -> Windows settings-> Folder redirection
- Select a folder ex. Desktop and right click (Document Properties) -> in the settings tab select
basic Redirect -> root path (paste the network path of the shared redirection folder)
- make sure to select OK button to save the changes.
- Create a new ADMIN USER ex. user1 in the Administrative Tools -> Active directory Users
and Computers
- Log-in (user1)the new ADMIN USER to the client PC.
- Check the redirection folder If the new Admin user folder (user1) appears

STEP 11 (Server)

FOLDER REDIRECTION PERMISSION


- right click the redirection folder, select Properties
- click Security tab, click Advanced
- click Change, Advance, Find Now
- on search result, select Administrator and Administrators press OK
- check permission ALLOW for Administrator and Administrators, press Apply

STEP 12 (Client)

ACCESS SERVER USING CLIENT’S COMPUTER (REMOTE DESKTOP)


- press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, log-on to created Administrator account ex: user2
- press Windows + R, enter “mstsc” and click enter or type Remote Desktop Connection on search
bar, press Enter
- On the textbox under Computer, enter the IP Address of the Server ex: 192.168.1.20, click OK.
