Directions: Read each scenario and decide which work-based learning opportunity it
describes.

Internship Job Shadow

1. Sarah’s Early Childhood Education I class required her to go into childcare


centers during her class time to assist the teachers and learn what it is like to
work in a childcare setting. What type of work-based learning is this?

2. Makyla thought she might want to be a pediatric dentist; so, she went to work
with one for the day and watched what the dentist did and asked questions about
the job. What type of work-based learning is this?

3. Markel leaves school during his fourth block class to go to an elementary school
to practice skills learned in his classes that he would use after he becomes a
teacher. What type of work-based learning is this?

4. Wendy has always wanted to help children. Her teacher set up a day for her to
follow a social worker to learn more about what their job entails. What type of
work-based learning is this?

5. Benjamin is strongly considering the idea of teaching preschool while taking the
Child Development course. He signed an agreement with a local childcare center
and ApprenticeshipNC to complete the internship component of his Early
Childhood Education I class. As a result of completing this "registered" combo
work-based learning experience, he will receive a certificate of completion. Then
Benjamin will have the opportunity to sign on as a registered apprentice upon
graduation if he chooses to continue on this path. What type of work-based

6. Tilley just graduated from high school and signed on to work with a company that
pays her to work for them, provides her a mentor in the company, and goes to
class at the local community college. When she graduates, she will be able to

her once she graduates. She found out that there were local companies that
