ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I Shreya Bajpai of Class• 8thC would like to express
my special thanks of gratitude to my respected teacher
Mrs. Neetu Bhardwaj as well as our Principal Mrs.
Sangeeta Bannerjee and our Senior Principal Ms. Manjit
Batra who gave me the golden opportunity to do this
wonderful project on the topic “Rational numbers”. This
project not only helped me in doing a lot of research
work but also sharpening my mathematical skills.
Secondly I would like to thank my parents and
my friends who helped me a lot in finalizing this project
within the limited time frame.

INTRODUCTION
Rational number is any number that can be expressed
in the form of p/q where p and q are integers and q is not
equal to 0. Every integer is a rational number but every
rational number is not an integer. The two rational can only
be equivalent only if they both have the same value and
every rational number can be written with a positive integer
as its denominator.
There are four types of operations on rational numbers:-
1. Addition
2. Subtraction
3. Multiplication
4. Division
Finding Rational Numbers
Q1. Find the first Rational Number that is equal to the temperature
of the coldest part of India divided by temperature of the hottest
part of India?
Q2. Find the Second Rational number that is equal to your age Divided
by your Mother’s age.
Q3. Find the Third Rational Number in which numerator is equal to
the number of Vowels in the word “PROJECT” and denominator is
equal to the Number of Consonants in the same word.
Comparing and Arranging the Rational
Numbers in Descending Order
Q. Compare the above three rational numbers and arrange them in
Descending Order.
Verification of Properties
Q. Verify Associative property and Distributive property of
multiplication over subtraction.
Representation of Rational Number on the
Number Line
Q. Represent all three above rational numbers on number line
Finding the Absolute Value
Q. Find the absolute values of all three rational numbers.
Finding the Additive Inverse
Q. Find the Additive inverse of all three above rational numbers.
Finding the product
Q. Find the product of all three above rational numbers.
Conclusion
During the completion of this project I learned a
lot tricks and knowledge. Some learning outcomes
are:-
•The project helped in comparing the real-life
situations with the problems.
•I learned how to take out the rational numbers
from the word problems.
•I not only came to know how to compare the
rational numbers but arrange them as well.
•This project also taught me about the properties
of multiplication over subtraction.
•I came to know about the fastest trick to find
the absolute value of any rational number.
•While doing the project I realized that finding
the additive inverse is the easiest.
•I also learned how to represent the rational
numbers on the number line.
•This project also helped me in finding products
of the given rational numbers.
Bibliography
During the completion of this project, I
took help from the following sites and
books:-
