How To Create 3D model In Tekla Structures
Create 3D model in Tekla Structures
.
a. Start a New Model: Open Tekla Structures and start a new model project.
b. Define Model Settings: Set up project properties such as units, grid settings, and
coordinate system.
c. Create Structural Components: Use Tekla's modeling tools to create structural components
like beams, columns, braces, and connections. You can input dimensions and properties as
needed.
d. Add Structural Details: Incorporate details such as plates, bolts, welds, and other
connections to accurately represent the structure.
e. Define Material Properties: Assign material properties to each component for accurate
analysis and detailing.
f. Construct Assemblies: Group components into assemblies for easier management and
manipulation.
g. Review and Validate: Review the model for accuracy and completeness, and validate
against design requirements and standards.
h. Generate Drawings and Reports: Produce fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and
reports directly from the model.
i. Collaborate and Share: Collaborate with other project stakeholders by sharing the model
files or using Tekla's collaboration tools.
j. Continuously Update and Maintain: Throughout the project lifecycle, update the model with
any design changes and maintain it for accurate documentation and coordination
3
CHAPTER 3: Detailing
•
Detailing in Tekla Structures refers to the process of creating highly detailed drawings and documentation
from the 3D model.
•
This includes generating fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, part lists, and other construction
documentation required for the fabrication and erection of structural elements.
•
a. Fabrication Drawings: These drawings provide detailed information for the fabrication
of individual components, such as beams, columns, and plates. They include dimensions,
material specifications, welding details, bolt sizes, and other necessary information for
the fabrication shop.
b. Assembly Drawings: Assembly drawings show how the different components of a
structure fit together. They include information on connections, welds, and other details
relevant to the assembly process. Assembly drawings help ensure that the fabricated
components are correctly assembled on-site.
c. Part Lists: Tekla Structures automatically generates part lists based on the 3D model.
These lists detail all the components in the structure, including quantities, sizes, and
material specifications. Part lists are essential for ordering materials and tracking
inventory.
d. Detailing Standards: Tekla Structures allows users to define detailing standards and
templates to ensure consistency across drawings and projects. This includes specifying
drawing formats, title blocks, symbols, and other standards for documentation.
e. Clash Detection: Tekla Structures includes clash detection tools to identify potential
conflicts or clashes between structural elements in the model. This helps ensure that all
components fit together properly and avoid costly errors during fabrication and
construction.
•
Overall, detailing in Tekla Structures plays a crucial role in translating the 3D model into comprehensive
documentation that guides the fabrication and construction processes. It helps improve efficiency,
accuracy, and communication among project stakeholders.

CHAPTER 4: Tekla Structures
•
Originating from Finland, Tekla Structures emerged in the 1960s, evolving from a modest drafting tool
to a robust Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
•
Over the decades, Tekla Structures has undergone significant enhancements, adapting to industry
demands and technological advancements.
•
Tekla Structures is a powerful structural engineering software used for building information modeling
(BIM), particularly in the construction industry.
•
It allows engineers, designers, and contractors to create accurate 3D models of structures such as
buildings, bridges, and industrial plants.
•
Tekla Structures enables users to design, analyze, detail, and fabricate steel, concrete, timber, and other
materials.
•
The software provides tools for modeling various structural components, creating detailed drawings and
reports, and facilitating collaboration among project stakeholders.
•
Tekla Structures helps streamline the entire structural engineering and construction process, from
initial design to fabrication and construction management
