Task4a - Understanding Teaching Tools
Task4a - Understanding Teaching Tools
Module 1
I am taking computer science (Python programming) for Year 8 and 9 students and my
main goal is to implement my effective teaching for the whole class using different teaching
tools.
Using different teaching tools in a classroom is the key to reach all students to
stimulate and identify the depth knowledge of their learning. I am taking the following four
main teaching tools to evaluate here.
1. Mind map
2. Google classroom
3. Padlet
4. Zoom
1. Mind map:
Basically, a mind map is a simple diagram or a tool that is used for visually organized data.
A mind map is hierarchical, so it helps students to understand the topic easily and it gives a
vivid description of the topic which is taught.
It's usually designed around a particular topic, drawn in the form of an image in the
middle of the page, surrounded by different ideas that are related to the topic so it makes it
easier for the students to understand the lessons. Important ideas are combined straight to
the central topic, while other less important ideas are connected to the Important ideas like
branches.
[2]
For example, when I teach the input and output devices to my students in year 8, a mind
map will be the best choice because it directly inserts the study into the student's head. As the
input and output devices are the main topics and the examples of input and output devices
are the subtopics connected to the main topics.
2. Google classroom:
Google classroom is a service that allows teachers to share files, create assignments and to
communicate with the students in a paperless way. Google classroom was founded in
1998.Google classroom is completely free, however the school does have to sign up for a G
suite for an education account in order to use it with students, as this G suite education
account will help to ensure additional privacy and security for students.
In Google classroom teachers can post announcements, assignments, materials, links to
additional resources and more, as the students will be able to hand in their work through
Google classroom and the teachers will be able to provide feedback to the students. Students
can also communicate with other students as well in Google classroom, which is going to be
important in order to maintain the sense of a classroom.
[3]
3. Padlet:
Padlet is an interactive online bulletin board where students can post an array of
different types of content and then see what their classmates are doing in real-time.
Padlet is one of the main tools that is used to help facilitate students sharing their
ideas and works with each other, rather than just with one person. While teaching remotely, it
is going to be even more important to create opportunities for all students to feel like they are
still part of the class and their involvement is important here. It is creating student’s
involvement in a digital space.
Although padlet is a very easy software to use, it is actually incredibly dynamic.
Students cannot share only the answers of what they are typing. They can also upload any
[4]
types of files like images, audio, video etc. They can post screenshots and important diagrams
in a padlet. Teachers can fully customize the settings to best fit for the class’s needs.
4. Zoom:
Zoom is a place where teachers and students can meet, talk, discuss and etc. Teachers and
students can join from their mobile or tab or desktop or laptop from any part of the world and
can come together and meet face-to-face on Zoom and it's so simple to use.Zoom has the best
audio and video quality, bringing the teachers and students together and make them feel just
like they are in their classroom.
Teachers can share their screen and start their lesson, students can speak or chat with
each other and can ask their questions freely. Students can even annotate the shared screen.
There is also a raise hand button for the students, so they can raise their hands if they have
any questions, as it pops up on the teacher’s screen.

Similarities:
All these are the main teaching tools that most of the teachers use during
pandemic.
They are all used in the classroom to support student learning, ranging from
traditional to high-tech options.
All these help students to study and understand the topic well and easily.
All these can help students feel that they are still in the part of a class .
All these encourage children to study well and effectively.
students are actively involved in constructing content and new ideas. They use
active learning approaches, such as project-based learning and design-based
learning, where students are engaged in real, relevant, and purposeful activities.
Even though all these have lots of advantages in classroom, they also have some
disadvantages.
They all encourage reflective processes that help students reflect upon their
learning and extract deep connection with the lessons.

JUDGMENT:
1. Mind map:
[13]
The Mind map is hierarchical.
Mind Map helps students to take only the most important notes using key words,
and then makes a link between facts and data visually.
It creates easier note making for students, as it simplifies big lesson notes into one
single side of paper.
It makes students to understand the overall lesson together in a simple way.
It is very useful for students to revise full subjects for the exams.
2. Google classroom:
Students can chat with their classmates or with the teacher directly.
There will be a small box in the left of the student’s page where the student can see the
assigned work.
Next to the stream, classwork is there. Students can view all the work assigned by the
teachers.
Students can access the google classroom from any part of the world.
3. Padlet:
[15]
The Padlet is the easiest tool, used to make any content and collaborate with the
world.
Padlet is a canvas tool which creates or makes beautiful and impressive projects or
even notes which are easy to share and even collaborate with lots of students.
It looks like a piece of paper, which is empty but we can add many things on it like
pictures, GIF images , videos etc.
It allows us to write texts or past texts and post it on the padlet or even we can
upload many documents and multimedia files.
We can choose custom wallpapers and make it more beautiful and attractive for
learners.
4. Zoom:
Zoom is one of the main apps that teachers use to teach the children during this
pandemic.
[16]
In Zoom teachers and students can share their screen and even others can
annotate the shared screen .
If the students or teachers have any issue in showing their background they can
use a virtual background too.
Students and teachers can speak, show them self in zoom, as it creates the mood of
a classroom.
Teachers can assassinate breakout sessions to the students and can separate the
students into groups.
During class parties, students can have virtual face masks like funny faces.
