EVOLUTION
OF ICT
PRE-MECHANICAL AGE
(3000 B.C – 1450 A.D)
PRE-MECHANICAL AGE
(3000 B.C – 1450 A.D)
The era on which human started
communicating with the use of language or
simple drawing known as Petroglyphs,
which were usually carved on rocks. Early
alphabets such as the Phoenician Alphabet
were then developed.
MECHANICAL AGE
(1450 – 1840)
MECHANICAL AGE
(1840 – 1940 )
A lot of new technologies are developed in this era as
there is a large explosion in interest with this area.
Technologies like the slide rule (an analog computer
used for multiplying and dividing) were invented. Blaise
Pascal invented the Pascaline which was a very popular
mechanical computer. Charles Babbage developed the
difference engine which tabulated polynomial equations
using the method of finite differences.
ELECTROMECHANICAL AGE
(1840 – 1940)
ELECTROMECHANICAL
AGE
(1840 – 1940 )
The era where telecommunication first started,
During this era a lot of technologies were developed
such as Telegraph created in 1832 while morse code was
created in 1935 by Samuel Morse, Telephone was
created by Alexander Graham Bell and the first radio
was developed by Gugliemo Marconi.
ELECTRONIC AGE
(1940 – Present)
ELECTRONIC AGE
(1940 – Present)
The era where modern
people lived in, this era is where the first
computer was created . The ENIAC the first
high speed digital computer designed by
the US army for artillery firing table a
computer capable of being reprogrammed
to solve computer problem.
GENERATION
OF
COMPUTER
Vacuum Tube
(1940 - 1956)
Vacuum Tube
(1940 - 1956)
Used by the first computer
system called (ENIAC) or
Electronic Numerical Integrator
and Computer for circuitry
along with magnetic drum for
memory, and they used up
enough space that was enough
to occupy the entire room
Magnetic drum
Invented by Gustav Tauschek (1932)
(ENIAC)
Electronic Numerical
Integrator and
Computer
Designed by John Mauchly and J. Presper
Eckert (1945)
Transistor
(1956 - 1963)
Transistor
(1956 - 1963)
Was invented at Bells Labs in 1947,
but did not become a mainstream
utilization not until the late 50’s
where it helps computer become
smaller, faster, cheaper, more
energy efficient and reliable then
their first-generation counterpart
and was seen as superior than
vacuum tube.
MANCHESTER TC
Computer
Richard Grimsdale and Douglas Webb
(Nov 16, 1953)
Integrated Circuit
(1964 - 1971)
Integrated Circuit
(1964 - 1971)
They started using integrated circuits
instead of transistors. The integrated
circuit (IC) is a semiconductor
material, that contains thousands of
transistors miniaturized in it. With the
help of IC, the computer becomes
more reliable, fast, required less
maintenance, small in size, generates
less heat, and is less expensive.
IBM Model 5150
(The IBM 5150 was developed by a
team of engineers at IBM, led by Don
Estridge)
Artificial Intelligence
(Present - Beyond)
Artificial Intelligence
(Present - Beyond)
It is primarily based totally on
Artificial intelligence (AI) software.
Artificial intelligence describes the
medium and manner of creating
computer systems like people, the
manner human thinks, the manner
people act, etc. and that is a rising
department and has all of the scopes
for studies work too.
