Unit 2

Basics of data literacy in AI

Aim:
1. To understand the basics of data literacy.
2. To learn the process of acquiring, processing, and interpreting data.
3. To explore creating interactive dashboards and presentations for effective
communication.

1. Basics of Data Literacy

• Definition:
Data literacy is the ability to read, analyze, and interpret data effectively.
• Importance:
o Helps in making informed decisions.
o Drives problem-solving in AI applications.

2. Steps in Working with Data

• Acquiring Data:
o Collect data from reliable sources like surveys, sensors, or databases.
o Ensure the data is accurate and complete.
• Processing Data:
o Clean the data (remove errors, duplicates, or inconsistencies).
o Organize data into tables or charts for analysis.
• Interpreting Data:
o Analyze trends and patterns to draw conclusions.
o Use tools like statistics and graphs to summarize the findings.

3. Project: Creating an Interactive Dashboard and Presentation

• Dashboard:
o A dashboard is a tool for visually representing data.
o Tools like Excel, Google Sheets, or Tableau can be used.
o Dashboards include charts, graphs, and tables to display real-time data
insights.
• Presentation:
o Present the data insights through slides.
o Use visual aids like bar charts, pie charts, and tables for clarity.
o Clearly explain the findings and their implications.

Tasks:
Task 1:
1. Define:
o Data literacy
o Acquiring, processing, and interpreting data
2. List 2 tools that can be used for creating dashboards.
Task 2:
1. Create a simple table showing any 5 items and their corresponding quantities (e.g.,
items sold in a shop).
2. Represent this data as a bar chart or pie chart.
Task 3:
1. Design a basic interactive dashboard using Google Sheets or Excel to show data from
a simple dataset (e.g., monthly expenses, sports scores, etc.).
2. Prepare a slide (1-2) with charts or graphs explaining the dashboard insights.
