B. Presentation
 Introducing New Topic: Photography and
Types of Cameras
Since we have been talking about photos, do Our topic for today is photography.
you have any idea what our lesson would be
for today?

Correct! Our lesson for today is all about

Photography.

To help us understand what photography is, let

us watch this short video. (The students will watch silently)

(The teacher will play a video entitled “What is

Photography”)

So in simple terms, photography is where

science meets art. Why? Because just like a
painter, we visualize an art form and with the
help of science, we capture that image.

Yes.

Here in Baguio, we can see a lot of art forms I see the native pine trees.
especially in nature. Look outside, or look
around you, what art forms can you see?

Correct! Now that we have a visualized art

form, through photography, we can capture it.
The camera is the technology that we use to
take pictures, images, or photographs.

What technology do we use to capture images I think we use cameras, Teacher.

of art forms?

In the video, how many types of cameras were There were four cameras mentioned
mentioned? Raise your hand if want to answer. Teacher.

What are these types of cameras?

Surveillance, digital camera, mobile phone
(As the students give their answers, the camera, and point and shoot camera.
teacher will write it on the board)

You are correct my dear students.

(The teacher will move on to the next slide of

the PowerPoint Presentation to show an
example of a point and shoot camera)

Let us talk about these different types of

cameras.

First we have a point and shoot camera. Kindly (The student will read what is being shown in
read its definition. (The teacher will call out a the PowerPoint Presentation)
student who will read)
In using a point and shoot camera, we simply
point at our subject, and press the shutter
button and we now have a picture.

The second one would be the mobile phone

camera.

(The teacher will move on to the next slide of

the PowerPoint Presentation where the mobile (The girls will read what is being shown in
phone camera is being defined and shown) the PowerPoint Presentation)

Girls kindly read the definition of a mobile

phone camera. One two and go.

(The students will raise their hands)

Who among you have cellphones?

For sure you have tried taking a picture using

your phones. So just like the point and shoot
camera, it allows us to take pictures with ease.

The next type of camera is a digital single-lens

reflex camera.

(The teacher will move on to the next slide of

the PowerPoint Presentation where DSLR
camera is being defined and shown)
(The students will read what is being shown
in the PowerPoint Presentation)

Everyone please read. One two and go.

DSLR cameras are mainly used in the

professional setting because it can give
photographers more control over their desired
outcome of the photo.

All of these devices that we have mentioned,

they all have one thing in common. They all
store images in digital form. Which is why, they
are used in digital photography.

(The teacher will move to the slide where digital

photography is being defined)

(The student will read what is being shown in

the PowerPoint Presentation)

Everyone please read. One two and go.

So, in digital photography, photos are being

stored in a digital storage device such as a
memory card.

One of the commonly used device in digital

photography is the DSLR camera because it
can take photos with high quality and it can
offer photographers more control over the
result that they want for their photographs.

So let us talk about the parts and functions of a

DSLR camera.

(The teacher will move on to the next slide of

the PowerPoint Presentation showing an image
of a DSLR camera with its parts labeled)
Here we have the lens. This is where light
enters and where the photo process begins. It
is one of the most vital parts of a camera.

(The teacher will write important details of the

topic being discussed on the board)

The next one is the viewfinder. It is an eyepiece

that photographers hold close to their eye to
allow them to see what is being photographed.

(The teacher will write important details of the

topic being discussed on the board)

The body is the main portion of the camera.

Camera bodies can be a number of different
shapes and sizes depending on the model of
the camera.

(The teacher will write important details of the

topic being discussed on the board)

The shutter release button is a button that you

will press to enable the ability to capture an
image.

(The teacher will write important details of the

topic being discussed on the board)

The memory card is where all of the images

are being stored. It is the digital storage device
that DSLR cameras use. This memory card
allows transfer of images to computers for
processing or for sharing.

The LCD screen is found at the back of the

body and can vary in size depending on the
model of the camera. Some have larger LCD
screens, and some have smaller ones. It’s
purpose is to view photos after shooting.
(The teacher will write important details of the
topic being discussed on the board)

The flash is useful in providing extra light

during dim or low-light situations.

(The teacher will write important details of the

topic being discussed on the board)

And finally, you can see here the user controls

or the different buttons found all over the body
of the camera. It may vary depending on the
model of the camera. It can allow a
photographer to customize the settings to
adjust to different situations and help them
achieve the results that they want.

(The teacher will write important details of the

topic being discussed on the board)

All of these parts work together in order to

capture stunning images such as this one.

 Moving on to the next topic: The Purpose

of Photographs
A while ago, you mentioned some of the
reasons why we take photos. Who among you
here has an idea about some ways on how
photographs are used in our daily lives?

Correct!

(The teacher will move on to the next slide of

the PowerPoint Presentation wherein the
purposes of photographs are showcased)

So aside from the things you have mentioned,

here are some ways pictures are used in our
daily lives.
(The student reads what is being shown in
Kindly read the first one. (The teacher will call a the slide)
student to read)

Scientific evidences are information gathered

through scientific research. Pictures can be
used as scientific proof or scientific evidence.
(The teacher moves on the next slide of the
PowerPoint Presentation to show an example
of a photo as a scientific evidence)
This is a photo of Pluto, the dwarf planet. It is
described as a world full of mountains, valleys,
plains, craters, and possibly glaciers. How did
astronomers know this? Through pictures that
were sent by the spacecrafts that were sent in
space to take pictures of Pluto.

(The teacher moves on to the next slide of the

PowerPoint Presentation wherein an example
of photojournalism is being shown) (The student reads what is being shown in
the slide)
Kindly read the second use of pictures. (The
teacher will call a student to read)

Pictures as conveyors of news. Now, I want

everyone to look at this pictures. What do you
think is trying to portray? (The teacher will call a
student who will answer)

(The teacher shows an example of

photojournalism) The photo portrays anxiety regarding the
pandemic.

Yes, as you can see, the man’s face in the

picture shows that he is worried because he
does not know when the pandemic will end.

How about this one? (The teacher will show

another example of photojournalism and call a
student who will answer the question)
It shows how religious Filipinos are.
That’s right actually. This is a photo taken in
Tolosa, Leyte on November 18, 2013 after the
landfall of Typhoon Haiyan. According to the
journalist who took the photo, Philippe Lopez,
these people were thanking God because no
one in the village died despite the strong
typhoon.

Now let’s move on to the next one, which is

historical evidences.
(The student will read what is being shown in
(The teacher will move on to the next slide of the slide)
the PowerPoint Presentation wherein an
example of a photo as a historical documents is
being shown and defined)

Kindly read the definition of pictures as

historical documents. (The teacher will call a
student to read)

I can see cars in the picture, Teacher.

There are buildings already during the

1960s.
This is an old picture of session road way back
in the 1960s. What do you see in the picture? Yes, Teacher.

Yes, that is correct. What else?

Exactly. Now that you have these claims, this

photograph would be the one who will back-up
your claim. Do you get my point?

(The teacher moves on to the next slide of the

PowerPoint Presentation wherein an example
of a photo as an artwork is being shown)

It makes me feel lonely.

The main purpose of art is to express. It is
supposed to make you feel something.
It is trying to express the loneliness.
Looking at the photo, what does it make you
feel?

What do you think is it trying to express?

I am sure that you all have different answers.

The interpretation of arts is subjective. (The students will raise their hands)
Meaning it differs from person to person. Just
like paintings, pictures are forms of visual arts.
(The students will raise their hands)
And the last one is for records of family life.
Who among you here have pictures of their
family?

Who among you likes to take pictures with their

family whenever you go outside? The food you
ate, where you went, who you are with.

That is an example of records of family life.

(The teacher will show a family picture)

Yes, teacher.

C. Generalization
(The teacher will move on to the next slide of
the PowerPoint Presentation where it says Yes, teacher.
“What Have I Learned Today (WILT)”

In this simple activity, before answering my Photography is where science meets art.
question, I want you to start with the phrase
“Today, I have learned…” Is that clear? (Students do the excellent clap)

Today, we talked about photography and the

different purposes of pictures, correct?

Now let me ask you, in your own words, what is

photography? Pictures can serve as works of art. Works of
art aims to make us feel emotions.
Correct. Let us give him/her an excellent clap.
(Students do the excellent clap)
What about the different purposes of pictures?
Can you name one and discuss it?

You are excellent my dear student. Let us give

him/her an excellent clap.
D. Application
Now that you know the different purposes and
uses of photography, how do you think can
photography help you in your lives as students?

That is actually a good answer.

E. Evaluation
For our activity, I will show you different pictures,
and you will tell me whether it is for scientific
evidence, conveyor of news, historical
documents, works of art, or records of family life.
(The teacher will call a student to recite)
It can make my life easier when for example
I cannot write fast during lessons, I can
simply take pictures of what was written on
the board if the teacher allows it. That way, I
can focus more on listening to my teacher.
