INTRODUCTION

For centuries, the circulation of information in the world has been embryonic. But with the
advent of scientific and technical progress came devices and machines such as radios,
telephones, computers and others that allowed information to circulate easily. The Internet,
which is the subject of our study, came into being in the 1960s in America. It obeys a very
precise logic: faster, further and more reliable. With all its advantages, it also has its
disadvantages.

I-DEFINITION AND ORIGIN OF THE INTERNET

A-DEFINITION

The Internet is a telecommunications network, a network of ultra-fast networks linking

computers throughout the world, enabling the exchange of data and information.

B- ORIGIN OF THE INTERNET

The Internet was created by the US military in 1969, the aim of ensuring that information
could be exchanged between remote sites so that they could operate without interruption. The
ARPANET network was born. During 1970, the number of government and university users of
this network increased. In 1980, the various American research networks were linked up to form
the NSF NET network. In other countries, similar structures developed and all these networks
came together to form the Internet. From 1990 to 1992.

II-FUNCTIONS OF THE INTERNET

A-IN THE INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION FIELD

It can be said that the Internet has provided the media with a range of new services that have
revolutionised the field of media work on more than one level:
The first level: Internet as a source of information using it as an aid to news coverage or as a
source of basic sources to cover urgent news events through the numerous news sites, whether
for international and non-Arab newspapers and magazines, as well as Arab and non-Arab news
sites and agencies, news banks and TV channels. The global network that provides network
information services in addition to institutional, service and corporate sites. - Using it as a source
to supplement information, details and background on important events, and as a source to
provide static and animated photos. Familiarise yourself with books and new publications
through libraries, electronic and printed book showcases and sales outlets.

The second level: Internet as a means of communication, using the network as an external
means of communication with delegates and correspondents and receiving their messages by e-
mail. Hold written meetings with journalists and delegates. editors can also take advantage of
this to conduct remote interviews with various personalities from around the world. Ways of
contacting sources.
The third level: the Internet as a means of interactive communication in terms of extending the
possibilities for public participation by e-mail to the media website on the network.

Fourth level: Internet as an advertising medium by publishing an advertisement on the

institution's website, which adds new revenue to the media organisation.

B-IN EDUCATION

E-learning is a teaching method that uses modern communication mechanisms based on a

computer, its networks and its multiple media, including sound and images, graphics, search
mechanisms, electronic libraries and Internet portals, thus making use of technologies of all
kinds to provide the learner with information in the shortest possible time, with the least effort
and with the greatest benefit.

The Internet in the United States of America began as a military network for defensive
purposes, but with the accession of American universities and then institutions of various
specialisations, officially in America and abroad, it has become a global network used in various
areas of life. Information about the network, in addition to the other advantages it enjoys, has
tempted many to take advantage of it, each in its own field.

Among the educators who have made progress using it in education, some American
universities and others offer some of their teaching material via the Internet in addition to
traditional methods.

III-INTERNET OPERATION

A-SERVICES AVAILABLE

The e-mail service is used as a means of sending circulars and regulations and to help learners
contact specialists anywhere at the lowest cost, a mediator for the delivery of homework, a
mediator for communication between members such as administrative affairs or teaching staff
and the school, and an intermediary between the teacher and the learner. Meetings and transfer of
conferences from classrooms, such as distance learning, solving the problem of the lack of
teachers and professors and presenting certain .
The scientific mailing list service consists of setting up special mailing lists, creating a list of
student names during a semester, setting up mailing lists for students from all universities,
schools or colleges, sending subject requirements and assignments, student participation in
global scientific lists, linking administrative staff with each other, asking students and teachers to
subscribe to global scientific lists according to specialisations. The Web service is similar to
training for certain exercises, developing model lessons and teaching programmes, and designing
a site for administration, supervision and management devices in educational establishments.
The remote conferencing service is like videoconferencing, audioconferencing, magazines and
computer conferencing services.

B-HOW DO I CONNECT TO THE INTERNET?

Wired connection :
The telephone call method is the most common, and is also the slowest and cheapest. The
connection is made using a 56 Kbps modem. This method involves calling a specific number and
using the fixed network to connect to the Internet. Using a wireless DSL modem is a very
popular method, and the wireless connection is very easy and can be protected with a password
and MAC ADDRES.

Wireless connection :

Wi-Fi technology is used to provide the wireless communication method. And of its types A, B,
G and N, and they differ from each other in the coverage area and information transmission
speed, and the extent and quality of the connection varies according to the quality of the signal
and the strength of the transmission. For households, using modem communication is the
simplest way of accessing the Internet via a wireless connection.

IV- ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THE INTERNET

A- BENEFITS

Providing information, knowledge and learning The Internet contains an infinite amount of
information that allows a person to identify any subject and a person can ask any question and
find the answer on web pages using search engines such as Google. YouTube also offers many
videos that explain various subjects in addition to the tutorial courses. There are many subjects
that can be learnt online.

Internet communication speed is considered the best means of communication between people,
as it is possible to communicate with anyone present in another part of the world, as well as
videoconferencing, chat and messaging services can be used to increase personal and interactive
communication. He has shared his thoughts on global issues and the Internet has provided a
platform for exploring other ideologies and cultures.

Achieving a high level of control The alarms that homeowners use to protect their homes or
institutions offer a high level of security that suits them, especially if they are able to manage and
control these devices remotely via the Internet in addition to what the Internet offers individuals
in terms of the ability to control lighting systems And various electrical appliances such as
televisions, air conditioners, etc., in their homes or establishments remotely, where they can be
switched off, on or controlled in humidity, or otherwise via specific applications that can be
easily downloaded onto mobile phones or other control tools.

Mapping and location mapping Applications that run on the Internet help people to draw the
maps they need to reach their intended locations, in particular using (GPS) technology, as well as
providing information on the locations of businesses the individual needs, hospitals, clinics and
other facilities by restricting them and their locations in a list to benefit from them.

Banking services and bill payments in addition to online shopping. Individuals currently have
the option of accessing their bank accounts without having to visit banks, in addition to being
able to pay electricity or water bills, for example, and carry out other government transactions
through it. Working from home allows the Internet to provide a fast and immediate connection
People who work from home can do so easily and conveniently, as some companies allow
employees this option to help them save the expense of travelling to and from the company and
the cost of childcare while their relatives are away at crèches and for other reasons. It also allows
companies to include a group of talented employees from outside the country.

Marketing and earn money Internet is the ideal place to sell most products where it is possible
to reach the largest number of people compared to retail shops, as well as Internet allows the
display of products 24 hours a day and 7 days a week in addition to giving companies the
opportunity to advertise their services or products worldwide or assign a specific category They
want to access.

B-INCONVENIENCES

Addiction and waste of time Games and other entertainment on the Internet are a source of
addiction, because you can easily spend a lot of time on the Internet without doing anything
useful, and while doing useful things, you can distract yourself with something else, which leads
to the consumption of all the time in the end.

Providing bad content The percentage of people, particularly young people, who have access to
inappropriate content such as violent or unethical images and videos is increasing as the vast
amount of information contained on this network grows, posing a danger to its users.

Causing health problems The repetitive movement pattern that individuals adopt when sitting
in front of the computer, represented by the individual moving their hand from the keyboard to
the mouse and vice versa repeatedly, can lead to numerous health problems, including carpal
tunnel syndrome in addition to what leads to obesity by sitting for long hours in front of a screen
Excessive and associated health risks.

The inability to disconnect from the work environment, despite the advantages of the Internet,
is blamed on the individual's inability to dissociate himself from the work environment, where
the notifications that reach the individual's e-mail via the telephone, for example, cause him to
interact with it by reading and replying to it while he is at home or with his friends outside
working hours, causing him to confuse work life with personal life.

Feeling lonely Two studies have shown that there is a strong correlation between the frequency
of Internet use and loneliness, and it is possible that people who use the Internet more often
develop depression.

Internet hacking is an easy way for hackers and computers to steal personal information. The
Internet also links all computers together, making it easier for hackers to scan millions of
computers and quickly locate devices vulnerable to hacking.

CONCLUSION

The individual must endeavour to use this form of technology in such a way as to bring benefit
and development to himself and his society, and to steer clear of those things that are promoted
through it and which aim to destroy human principles and good morals and lead us away from
positive legacies and cause corruption.
