QUESTION 1

(a) If −3 sin β − 2 = 0 and 𝛽 ∈ [0°;270°], use a sketch in the correct quadrant to

determine the value of: 1 + tan2 𝛽 without a calculator. (5)

(b) If, cos 75˚ = m express each of the following in terms of m, showing all your working:

(1) cos2 105° (2)

(2) sin 15° (2)

(3) tan 15° (2)

(c) Given the expression:

cos ( 180° − 𝑘). sin ( 𝑘 − 90°) − 1

tan2 ( 540° + 𝑘). sin ( 90° + 𝑘). cos( − 𝑘)

(1) Simplify the expression. (7)

(2) Determine the values of 𝑘 ∈ [0°;360°] for which the expression is undefined. (6)

(d) Prove that:

1 + sin θ 1 − sin θ 4 tan θ

− = (5)
1 − sin θ 1 + sin θ cos θ

(e) Determine the general solution of:

6 sin2 𝜃 + cos 𝜃 = 4 (7)

(f) If p = tan A + sin A and q = tan A − sin A, prove that:
