HOW TO IOS UPGRADE IOS OF Router and switch

1. IOS kept in Flash

in Rom : 1. Bootstrap
2. POST
3. ROMMON
RAM : Running configuraition

NVRAM : Startup configuration.

Imagin my IOS version is 15,


there is 16 version available on
website for 1941

2. First go to cisco website

search => cisco 1941 ios download

Suggested relase and Latest release

Based on Suggested release we hae o go

15.7.3 is there

One is Universal and

one is universal - No payload Encrytion

We are living in India we don't require


payload encryption.

SPA.157-3.M9.bin

check the size of IOS is 81.11 MB


MD5 Checksum -> copy it in notepad
DRAM 512MB Flash 256MB -Copy it in notepad

Main IOS size is most important

--> If my flash size is 50 MB only,


can i copy the IOS in flas, NO

We have to be bigger size of Flas size

We have to Download the IOS in laptop

After downloading in laptop we have


to note down MD5 checksum, for
cross verification.

I have to copy the IOS in flash memory

We have to do it through USB drive


connect the USB to Router port
Copy the IOS from USB to Flash
TRADITIONAL WAY :
Via TFTP SERVER

We can go to google and search


downlaod TFTP server

Solar winds : TFTP server is very good

Check Ping and Telnet is happening

Download tftp

2. copy tftp : flash

3. sh flash

it is 128 MB

60 MB is available

File => Configure ==> givve path

thate i want to delete cureent ions

delete flash:c2811nm-adventr----M17a.bin

But router is still running

IOS is decompress and put in RAM.


therefore it is running

9. copy tftp: flash:


_> Enter
Address or name of remote hoste[]
Ip addresss of TFTP Server, where
tftp is installed (laptop)
source filename []? : ios which is downlaode with complete
extension
Destination filenmane : same name

10. Copy is happening, we have to


verify in tftp server.

--> it will take the 5 minutes to happen

10. sh flash
M18a.bin is copied

11. if there is multiple blash

#boot system flash: c2811----M18a.bin

14. from loaptop it is come to flasho
we have to verify wherterh it is corrupted
or not
VERY IMP # verify /md5 flash:iosname.bin
one number come = fcda==5aa
verify it with md5 noted

#reload

15. #sh ver

verifyt the version
