Task Objective
In this ongoing task you will demonstrate your deep understanding of the algorithms, data structures and
their related programming topics covered in this unit by providing peer support to your fellow students
throughout the semester.
General Instructions
1. To demonstrate that you have been able to provide significant help to your peers throughout this unit,
you need to collect and later present evidence of your assistance. You can assist other students in a
number of ways:
Answer questions asked by your peers on the CloudDeakin discussion board or in MS Teams.
o Responses should be timely (within a day or two of the question). If you are not the first to
answer you should provide an extension to the earlier answer(s).
o You can provide links and screen shots of these comments.
Create a visualisation, animation, or other means of clearly communicating a concept from the unit.
This would need to be insightful and helpful to others who are learning the concept.
o This should be provided to students early enough to be of assistance to students on that task.
Help other students in your practical class’ video discussion.
o You can ask your tutor to write a support email as evidence.
Volunteer at the Programming Help Hub.
o The tutor working at that time can write a support email as evidence.
Run (and record) a BB Collaborate/Teams/Zoom session to work through concepts with other students
online.
o This should be conducted well before (at least a week) the task is due so that it can be of
help to the students.
o A link to a recording of the session should be submitted.
Post meaningful responses on a public forum such as stackoverflow on topics relevant to this unit.
o Provide links and screen shots of your posts.
2. You must remember the following:
Sending someone your code is a breach of plagiarism rules and is not helpful to the student in the long
term.
Helping students to fix their problem themselves is always better than doing it for them.
3. Remember that we are after significant contributions here, so helping someone with one problem on one
occasion would not be sufficient. We are looking for ongoing support of others, or other significant
contributions, throughout the semester.

4. Always remember that you need to be respectful of other students and the tutors in this unit. To get this
task signed off, your efforts will need to be seen as beneficial by the teaching staff and other students.
5. Only students providing timely task submission and clearly performing at D or HD grade with their other
tasks throughout the trimester will be considered for this task.
Marking Process
To get this task completed, you must submit a covering report on time and outline the following:
What did you do to help others during the unit?
Provide evidence of your assistance, e.g. all the required links to the discussion board, supporting letters
from staff, a link to your tutorial/video/article/etc.
Describe what you have learnt from this task personally. How did you develop your understanding of the
unit by providing this help? What new things did you learn or what new insights you get about the unit
content?
Note that we will not check your report after the submission deadline. If you fail the deadline, you also fail
the task and this may impact your performance and your final grade in the unit.
