ABSTRACT

Gesture recognition technology has emerged as a critical component in

humancomputer interaction (HCI), enabling devices to interpret and respond to
human motions as input. This technology relies on various techniques, including
computer vision, machine learning, and sensor-based systems, to detect and
analyze gestures made by users. The primary aim is to enhance user experience
by providing a more intuitive and natural mode of interaction. Gesture
recognition can be implemented through different modalities, such as vision-
based (using cameras or depth sensors) and sensor-based systems (using
accelerometers and gyroscopes). Machine learning algorithms, particularly deep
learning, play a vital role in improving accuracy and efficiency by recognizing
complex patterns in motion data. Applications of gesture recognition span
diverse fields, including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), healthcare,
robotics, and automotive industries, offering novel ways for users to interact
with devices, control systems, and enhance accessibility. Despite significant
progress, challenges remain, including issues related to realtime processing,
accuracy in varied environments, and handling ambiguous or overlapping
gestures. Future advancements are expected to address these challenges,
fostering more seamless and intelligent systems that will revolutionize user
interfaces across various sectors.
