Lesson Number and Title Strategies Suggested Fun-filled Activities
Lesson 1: Scientific Investigation – C1. Short Review (7mins.)
The Importance of Fair Testing Collaboration and team There will be a review of the level of prior
building. Arrange knowledge and understanding of the components of
ourselves! the scientific investigation.

1. Each member of the group will be given a

strip of paper where the critical steps of
scientific investigations are written.
2. They will arrange themselves according to
the steps of the Scientific Investigation.
3. The teacher will give feedback on the
student’s answers. (make an observation, ask
a question, gather related data, form a
hypothesis, conduct an experiment, analyze
data, and report conclusions)

Identify what step in Scientific Investigation is used

in the following scenario?

Q1. While walking in the park, you notice that some

flowers near the pond are wilting, while the others
farther away seem healthy. (answer. observation)

Q2. You wonder why some flowers near the pond

are wilting while others farther away are not.
(answer. Know the problem)

Q3. You set up an experiment where you select two

groups of similar wilting flowers. One group is
placed under a shade near the pond, and you water
it regularly. The other group remains in its original
position without any intervention. (answer.
experimentation)

C2. Lesson Purpose and Intention(3mins.)

Teacher-Learner Strategy
(The teacher will ask a question about a fair test.)
How will you determine if an experiment follows a
fair test?

C3. Lesson Language Practice(5mins.)

Word Hunt
Students will identify the following terms on the
word pool and match them to the given statement
below:

Data Hypothesis
Conclusion Result
Scientific Investigation

__________1. An educated guess

__________2. Facts or statistics collected
__________3. Findings and answer to the
problem
__________4. A plan for asking questions and testing
possible answers
__________5. Something obtained by calculation or
investigation

Pictograph and Text C4A. Lesson Activity(25mins.)

Analysis The students will be given a set of pictures that
“Now You See Me!” show the control and experiment setup of plants.

Question:
1. Which plant grows best?Why?
(answer. Experimental set up. Because the
control setup has no fertilizer, while the
experimental setup has fertilizer.)

2. Identify the dependent and independent

variables in the setup. (answer. Fertilizer is
the independent variable, and plant growth is
the dependent variable)

C4B. Students will read the following questions and

provide answers.
1. How does the independent variable affect the
dependent variable?
(answer. A change in the independent
(fertilizer) variable can cause a change in the
dependent variable (plant growth))

2. Give ways on how fair testing affects the

validity of the result for both controlled and
experimental setups.
(answer. If you change one factor at a time
while keeping all other conditions the same
you are conducting a Fair Test.
Example: Identical pots for control and
experimental setup, the same amount of
water while no fertilizer for control setup and
applying fertilizers for experimnetal setup.)

C4C. Students will read the following questions and

provide answers.
1. Differentiate the growth of plants in a
controlled setup and experimental setup.
(answer. In the experimental setup, the plant
grow big/tall while in the control setup the
plant has stunted growth.)

2. List down some factors that affect the growth

of plants.
(answer. Sunlight, water, nutrients from the
soil, carbon dioxide, and temperature)

C5. Lesson Conclusion(5mins.)
