iSpell Contest Guidelines and Mechanics

A. ELIGIBILITY OF PARTICIPANTS
1. Participants must be officially enrolled this Academic Year 2020-2021 in any
grade level from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
2. Participants should be registered online by their coaches or teachers-in-
charge on or before April 9, 2021. Coaches and teachers-in-charge may use this

3. Participants should have access to fast and stable internet connection.
4. Participants should have an external webcam, earphone/headset and laptop
or tablet/smartphone. Two gadgets for Grades 4 to 12 participants are required.
5. Each participant should have an individual Zoom Account.
6. Participants should be well oriented by the coaches or teachers-in-charge.
7. Speller’s parents, teachers and coaches are not allowed to be with the
participants during the actual competition.

B. GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. Spelling words will come from the invited iSpell master.
2. Words shall be pronounced according to diacritical markings in the Webster
Dictionary
3. Only proper nouns should begin with capital letters.

4. Spelling variants will be accepted after verification is done by the iSpell


Master.
5. There will be no preliminary round.
6. Kinder to Grade 3 level participants will each use a white board, a marker and
an eraser to write the spelling words while Grade 4 to Grade 12 level
participants will answer in the Google Forms.
7. The competition will take place in three (3) rounds with corresponding points
for every correct answer, time, and number words.
a. Easy Round:
5 words in 10 seconds/word
1 point per correct answer
b. Average Round:
5 words in 15 seconds/word
2 points per correct answer
C. Difficult Round:
5 words in 15 seconds/word
3 points per correct answer
8. Scores of participants in the Kinder, Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 level in
every round will be shown on screen. Scores of participants in the Grade 4 to
Grade 12 level will be added at the end of the contest.
9. There will be no tie breaker. The first 3 players regardless of the number of
spellers having the same scores will be awarded with CavPUSO medals and
Certificate of Merit.
Fourth placers up to 10-15 place will be awarded with Certificate of Merit.
10. Winners will be awarded simultaneously by cluster after the competition.
11. The iSpell competition will be monitored by the CavPUSO Technical Working
Team.

C. GUIDELINES DURING THE COMPETITION


1. Participants should use this format when signing in,
Format : Level, Full Name ( First Name first)
Sample: G2, Renato M. dela Cruz
2. Participants should use the Zoom Meeting ID and Passcode assigned for
his/her grade level. Please refer to the table above.
3. Participants should be on time wearing any decent semi-formal attire or
school uniform.
4. Participants in the Kinder to Grade 3 Level should indicate their number in the
upper rightmost part of the whiteboard.
5. Participants in the Grade 4 to Grade 12 level should fill-out the information
required in the Google Form which the iSpell Master will share in the Zoom Chat
Box after reading the contest guidelines and mechanics.
6. Participants should listen and follow all the instructions of the iSpell Master.
7. Spelling words will be given to the participants following this standard format:
a. The iSpell Master will mention the spelling word,
b. Then the part of speech,
c. Then the brief definition of the word,
d. Then a sample sentence,
e. and will mention the spelling word again.
8. The iSpell Master will say GO as a signal for participants to start writing the
word in the whiteboard ( Kinder to Grade 3) and to start typing in the Google
Form ( Grade 4 to Grade 12).
9. Participants in the Kinder to Grade 3 level should raise their whiteboards in an
angle which the Monitor/Recorder can clearly see the word being spelled.
10. Participants in the Grade 4 to Grade 12 level should slowly type their answer
on the gadget that they are using.
10. The Monitor/Recorder will one by one check the answers of the Kinder to
Grade 3 participants and record their scores.
11. The Monitor/Recorder will check the scores of the Grade 4 to Grade 12
participants at the end of the three rounds.
12. Participants should avoid making unnecessary movement or gestures.
13. Participants must always observe honesty and humility.

On April 10, 2021, participants, coaches, teachers-in-charge and


parents may log in at our Zoom Account for GUIDANCE, QUESTIONS &
QUERIES.
