The increasing availability of data in the current information society has led to the need for valid
tools for its modelling and analysis. Data mining and other statistical methods are the appropriate
tools to extract knowledge by analyzing data. Students should be able to understand the nature of
data, especially business-related data, and apply the tools to extract information or knowledge from
the data. This information can be used for various business objectives like for cross-selling or up-
selling, understanding ideal customer for targeted marketing.
