I. OBJECTIVES
A. Learning Competencies/
Objectives (Writer the LC code)
1. Explain biodiversity
2. Identify the levels of biodiversity
3. Learn the importance of biodiversity and threats
EXPLORE
D. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills. A short description about biodiversity will be discussed.
What is biodiversity?
Biodiversity is the variety of all living things; the different plants,
animals, fungi and microorganisms, the genetic information
E. Discussing new concepts and they contain and the ecosystems they form.
practicing new skills
A short video about biodiversity. Students will answer the
following questions.
Grassland
Tundra
Marine
Economic Importance:
• Biodiversity is a reservoir of resources for the
manufacture of food, cosmetic products and pharmaceuticals.
• Crops livestock, fishery and forests are a rich source of
food.
• Wild plants such as cinchona and foxglove plant are
used for medical purposes.
• Wood, fibres, perfumes, lubricants, rubber, resins,
poisons, and the cork are all derived from different plant
species.
Threats
• Habitat Loss: habitat loss includes habitat destruction
and habitat fragmentation. Habitat destruction occurs when
the physical environment required be a species is altered so
that the species can no longer lives.
• Overexploitation: overexploitation (overharvesting)
involves hunting, fishing, or otherwise collecting organisms at
a faster rate than they can be replenished.
• Pollution: pollution occurs when chemicals, particles,
or other materials are released into the environment. Harming
the organisms there. Pollution has contributed to the decline
of many threatened species.
• Invasive species: are non – native organisms that,
when introduced to an area out of its native range. Disrupt the
community they invade. Non – native (exotic) refers to species
occurring outside of their historic distribution.
• Climate change: global climate change is also a
consequence of human population needs for energy, and the
use of fossils fuels to meet those needs. Essentially, burning
fossils fuels, including as oil, natural gas, and coal, increases
carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere.
G. Finding practical applications of ELABORATE
concepts and skills in daily living.
After the discussion, the students will be grouped into 2 and
will have a game called “GUESS ME”
Each group will have 1 representative and will act at the front
based on the word that will be given (no speaking allowed).
The rest of the group will guess what the student is attempting
to portray.
H. Making generalizations and
abstractions about the lessons
After the game, students will be asked on
how biodiversity is important to daily lives.
