Choose 3 questions out of 5. Show your workings.

1. Simplify each of the following:

2. In the diagram below, a rope is cut into three parts.

a) Write the expression for the length of the rope interms of d and y.

b) Given the length of the shortest part is 12 cm, find d.

c) Sheila gets the longest part which has length 15 cm less than the medium length of
rope. Find y.

3. Diagram below shows a rectangle. The area of the rectangle is 15𝑝4 𝑞 3 cm2.

a) Express the length of the rectangle in terms of pq

b) If the rectangle is duplicate into 4 to form a closed cuboid, find the smallest surface
area of the cuboid.

c) Find the total surface area of the cuboid in b).

b) It is given that (4𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 + 2) − (5𝑥 2 + 7) + (𝑥 2 + 6𝑥 − 3) = 𝑎𝑥 2 − 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐,


where a, b and c are integers. Determine the values of a, b, and c.
