Line Following Rulebook
Line Following Rulebook
Basic Category
The Basic Category of the Line Follower Robot Contest is specifically
designed for beginners who are new to robotics. In this category,
participants will build robots that autonomously follow a black line on a
white surface. Through hands-on learning in programming and control, this
challenge encourages creativity and critical problem-solving skills.
This category serves as an ideal starting point for students eager to explore
the exciting world of robotics. Participants will gain foundational knowledge
in sensor integration, motor control, and autonomous navigation. To keep
things simple and fair, only two types of robots are allowed: the Basic
Yellow Motor Robot. These straightforward and beginner-friendly
platforms provide a perfect introduction to robotics while allowing students
to focus on learning key concepts and fostering innovation.
Advanced Category
The Advanced Category of the Line Follower Robot Contest is tailored for
participants with a strong background in robotics, offering a more complex
and demanding challenge compared to the Basic Category. While the Basic
Category focuses on simple line-following for beginners, this category
pushes competitors to develop robots capable of autonomously navigating a
more intricate course featuring sharp turns, complex intersections, and
obstacles.
Participants in this category will need to apply advanced sensors and
sophisticated algorithms, elevating the technical complexity of their robots.
This contest is designed to test their problem-solving skills, precision, and
creativity at a higher level. Only advanced robots like the Lizaz and
Blaturoid will be permitted, which are equipped with enhanced capabilities
and performance, allowing competitors to tackle the increased difficulty.
This category offers a thrilling opportunity for experienced robotics
enthusiasts to showcase their expertise, innovation, and teamwork. It
provides a platform to demonstrate cutting-edge solutions and
sophisticated techniques in robot navigation, making it an exciting
challenge for those ready to take their skills to the next level.
Team Specifications:
Each team shall consist of 3 members only.
The team members for Basic Category must be Pre-O level students
or aged 12 to 15 years old.
The team members for Advanced category may be aged above 15.
Team members must be ready at the game field 5 minutes
before their every scheduled game. Failure to do so will result in
disqualification.
All the teams shall register their teams online through the
registration link.
Robot Specification
Robot must move autonomously and start with a button. Any
wireless/wired remote control is not allowed.
The size of the robot shall not exceed 20cm (length) x 20cm
(width) x 20cm (height).
The total weight of the robot including its power source and other
parts of the robot shall not exceed 3kg.
The robot cannot be split or separated into more than a unit.
All robots must be designed and manufactured to cause no harm to
any person and no damage to the field.
Robot will be inspected before every game. Robots that are not
made in conformity
with the rules will not be allowed to participate.
Arena Specification
Track Material: The track will be made on a Pana flex, ensuring
consistent friction for all robots.
Line Color: A black line with a width of 20mm (±2mm) will define
the course, placed on a white background. The contrast will allow
easy detection by standard sensors.
Track Layout: The arena will feature straight sections, sharp turns,
and varying angles to test the robot's maneuverability. Obstacles or
gaps may be included in the advanced category to challenge
navigation skills.
Dimensions: The total arena size will not exceed 3 meters by 3
meters, but the actual path length may vary based on the
complexity of the course.
Elevation: The track will remain flat, with no significant elevation
changes unless specified for a particular round or category.
Start and Finish: Clearly marked start and finish zones will be
indicated by white spaces or specific markers outside the black line.
Lighting Conditions: The arena will be well-lit, but robots should be
capable of performing under varying light intensities, as no special
lighting adjustments will be made for any robot.
Game Rules
The robot must start behind the starting line and must move along
the designated track until it touches the finishing line.
Team will be given 2 minutes of calibration time.
After the calibration time, the team is required to start their robot
from the starting point.
After the calibration, the team shall be given a total of 3 minutes for
the basic category and 4 minutes for the advanced category.
The teams are not allowed to change their robot after inspection.
The teams are not allowed to touch their robot after the match starts.
The robot must autonomously follow the black line from the START
to the END, passing through all checkpoints.
Each checkpoint passed earns 10 points and 10 points for finishing
the arena successfully.
In case of a tie, the team with the least time shall be the winner.
All the checkpoints will be marked on the arena clearly.
The robot must operate without any human intervention.
Robots must comply with the size and weight limits set by the
competition rules.
If the robot misses any checkpoint, no points will be awarded for that
section.
The robot must cross the last line fully to gain the points for
completion.
The judge's decision on points, penalties, and disqualification is final
and cannot be contested.
OTHERS
It is expected that the aim of all teams is to play a fair and clean
game. Teams that deliberately cheats or cause interference to
others and cause damage to the field and facilities will be
disqualified.
All decisions about gameplay and timing are under the digression of
the juries.
Judges reserve the right to amend the Rules & Regulations without
giving prior notification or any reasons there.
AT THE END.
You’re about to face more than a track—this is a test of innovation and
creativity. Every move counts. The path ahead is filled with opportunities
to prove your mastery and push the limits of robotics.
