A Weakness

It was a Wednesday afternoon and


John just came home from school. He
put his bag on the floor and ran to his
room to on the computer to play
computer games without doing his
school work. John used to be a good
student but ever since his parents had
bought him a computer, he started to
neglect his school work, missing his
meals and lack of sleep. It is like a
weakness. The computer was supposed
to be used for his school work but he
used it for the wrong purpose.

After playing for a few hours, John’s


father asked John to come and eat his
dinner, but he was still ignored his
father and continued clicking away at
his computer. After calling John many
times, his father was annoyed. He
shouted at John with his thundering
voice and forced him to go down for
dinner. John gobbled up his dinner and
went back to his computer to continued
playing. He stayed up until three in the
morning as he could not lift his eyes
away from the screen and went to bed.

The next morning, John had woken up


late. He woke up his parents, asking
them to send him to school
immediately. John’s parents quickly
drove him to school and told him to
stop staying up and go to bed early.
When he was in class, he tried to stay
awake but eventually fell asleep. John’s
teacher asked John for his homework
but John told his teacher that he forgot
to do it. After his teacher walked away,
he went back to sleep. After school
ended, John’s
classmates did not wake him up but
laughed at him as he was still
sleeping. John’s teacher woke him up
and brought him to the staff room to
complain to his parents. John’s teacher
told John’s parents that John had been
sleeping in class, not finishing his
homework and his previous exam
results was a sea of red. John’s parents
told his teacher that he had been
playing computer games and will deal
with him.
When John got home, his parents were
fuming mad as he had tested his
parents’ patience once too far; they
scolded John and took his computer
away. They secured his computer under
lock and key so John could not secretly
take it back. John learned that he
should not let a weakness take over
him. He promised to himself that he
was not play computer games until late
at night and not let it take over him
like missing his meals. He also
promised that he will complete his
homework and revision before playing
computer games.
