terms of a given arithmetic sequence.
 apply arithmetic sequence and series in real life situation

C. Pag-uugnay ng mga halimbawa sa bagong aralin (Presenting examples/ instances Indicators/Objectives

of the new lesson)

Imagine you are designing a seating arrangement for a theater. The first row has 10
seats, the second row has 12 seats, the third row has 14 seats, and so on, increasing
by 2 seats for each row. This is an example of an arithmetic sequence, where the
number of seats increases by a constant difference of 2 for each successive row

Teacher's Question:
What would be the number of seats in the 8th row?
We know that the first term (number of seats in the first row) is 10, and the common
difference is 2. To find the number of seats in the 8th row, we use the formula for the nth term

𝑎𝑛 = 𝑎1+(n−1)⋅d
of an arithmetic sequence:

𝑎8 =10+(8−1)⋅2=10+14=24
Substitute the values:

So, the 8th row will have 24 seats.

D. Pagtalakay ng bagong konsepto at paglalahad ng bagong kasanayan #1

(Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1)

Let’s start with the basics of an arithmetic sequence. An arithmetic sequence is a list
of numbers where the difference between consecutive terms is constant. This
difference is called the common difference (d).
Example 1: "Consider the sequence: 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, ...
Here, the difference between consecutive terms is
D = 5 – 2 = 3.
So, the common difference is 3, and the sequence is arithmetic."
Now, if we wanted to find the 6th term in this sequence, how would we do it?"
Solution: "We can use the formula for the nth term of an arithmetic sequence:
an=a1+(n−1)⋅da_n = a_1 + (n - 1) \cdot dan=a1+(n−1)⋅d
Given:
a1=2a_1 = 2a1=2 (the first term),
d=3d = 3d=3 (the common difference),
n=6n = 6n=6 (the term we want to find),
Substitute these values into the formula:
a6=2+(6−1)⋅3=2+15=17a_6 = 2 + (6 - 1) \cdot 3 = 2 + 15 = 17a6
=2+(6−1)⋅3=2+15=17.
So, the 6th term is 17."
What is the common difference for the sequence 7, 10, 13, 16, ...?"
"How can we find the 12th term of this sequence?

E. Pagtalakay ng bagong konsepto at paglalahad ng bagong konsepto #2 (Discussing

new concepts and practicing new skills #2)

In item no. 4, notice that each block or square increases after the other, right?
To illustrate:

This type of sequence where every term after the

first is obtained by adding a constant called the
common difference is known as an Arithmetic
Sequence.

In the above example, the common difference is 1.

How?

Absolutely!

sequence with 𝑎1 as the first term and d as the

In general, the first n terms of an arithmetic

common difference are

Page 2 of 4
𝑎1, 𝑎1 + 𝑑, 𝑎1 + 2𝑑, … , 𝑎1 + (𝑛 − 1)𝑑

If 𝑎1 and d are known, it is easy to find any term

in an arithmetic sequence by using the rule

𝑎𝑛 = 𝑎1 + (𝑛 − 1)𝑑

Is everything going smooth and clear?

Do you have any clarifications?
Since there’s none, let us proceed with the
examples.

Illustrative Examples:

1. Find the 7th term of the arithmetic sequence

3,9,15,21, 27,….

Solution:

Since the first term is known and the common

difference is most likely to be 6 (9 – 3 = 6 =

𝑎𝑛 = 𝑎1 + (𝑛 − 1)𝑑
15 – 9), then by substitution,

𝑎7 = 3 + (7 − 1)6
𝑎7 = 3 + (6)6
𝑎7 = 3 + 36
𝑎7 = 39

2. What is the 100th term of the sequence

0,5,10,15,…?

Solution:

Obviously, the constant difference between

𝑎𝑛 = 𝑎1 + (𝑛 − 1)𝑑
the terms is 5. Given the first term and d,

𝑎100 = 0 + (100 − 1)5

𝑎100 = 0 + (99)5
𝑎100 = 0 + 495
𝑎100 = 495

Would you like to try?

1. What is the 50th term of the sequence

1,3,5,7,9,...?

Obviously, the constant difference between the

terms is 5. Given the first term and d,

𝑎𝑛 = 𝑎1 + (𝑛 − 1)𝑑
Solution:

𝑎50 = 1 + (50 − 1)2

𝑎50 = 1 + (49)2
𝑎50 = 1 + 98
𝑎50 = 99

F. Paglinang sa Kabihasaan (Developing Mastery) Indicators/Objectives

Pangkatang Gawain
Divide the class into two groups: Yellow Team and Red Team. Each team will be
given a set of problems related to arithmetic sequences
1. Find the 10th term of the arithmetic sequence: 5, 8, 11, 14
2. Find the sum of the first 12 terms of the sequence: 2, 6, 10, 14, …
3. A staircase has 20 steps. Each step is 2 cm higher than the previous one. If
the first step is 10 cm high, how high is the 20th step?
Guidelines: Teams will have 15 minutes to solve the problems together. After solving, each

Page 3 of 4
team will present their solutions to the class, explaining their steps and reasoning. The team
with the correct answers and clear explanation wins the challenge.
The winning team will receive a reward, such as extra credit or a small prize.

G. Paglalapat ng aralin sa pang-araw-araw na buhay (Finding practical applications Indicators/Objectives

of concepts and skills in daily living; values integration)

Suppose you want to save money for a vacation, and you decide to save Php 500
every month. At the end of the first month, you have Php 500, by the end of the
second month, you have Php 1,000, and so on. This saving pattern follows an
arithmetic sequence, where the first term is Php 500, and the common difference is
also Php 500. By the end of 12 months, you can easily calculate your total savings
using the arithmetic sequence formula

H. Paglalahat ng Aralin (Generalization and abstractions about the lesson) Indicators/Objectives

The teacher will give the students to complete the following phrases:
I have learned that ...
. A sequence is arithmetic when
. To get the common difference of an arithmetic sequence,
. To determine the nth term of an arithmetic sequence, use the
formula
. To determine the missing term/s of an arithmetic sequence given
its first and last terms,

I. Pagtataya ng Aralin (Evaluation)

- Solve the following problems.

- A. Kelly is saving her money to buy a car. She has Php 50 000, and she plans
to save Php 3 750 per week from her job as a call center manager.
- How much will be the savings of Kelly after 8 weeks?
- If the car's down payment costs Php 270 000, how long will it take
her to save money at this rate?

- B. There are 28 seats in the front row of a theater. Each successive row
contains two more seats than the previous row. If there are 24 rows, how
many seats are there in the last row?
- C. Mario began an exercise program to get back in shape. He plans to row 5
minutes on his rowing machine the first day and increase his rowing time
by one minute and thirty seconds each day.
- How long will he row on the 18th day?
- On what day will Mari first row an hour and more?

J. Karagdagang Gawain at Remediation (Additional Activities for Application/

Remediation)
read about geometric sequences and
series as a preparation for the next lesson
- Direction: Research on other examples of applications of arithmetic sequence
in real-life setting. Paste the examples in a piece of clean paper. Elaborately
explain why such examples belongs specifically to an arithmetic sequence.
