by him for this policy, rate of GST being 18%.
7. A man went to see a movie. He wanted to purchase a movie ticket for Rs 80. As the ticket for Rs 80 was not
available, he purchased a ticket for Rs 120 of upper class. How must extra GST did he pay for the ticket? (GST for
a ticket below Rs 100 is 18% and GST for a ticket above Rs 100 is 28%).
QUADRATIC EQUATIONS
1. Find two consecutive odd integers such that the sum of their squares is 394.
3
2. Divide 15 into two parts such that the sum of their reciprocals is .

3. Find three successive even natural numbers, the sum of whose squares is 308.
4. A two digit number contains the bigger at ten’s place. The product of the digits is 27 and the difference between
two digits is 6. Find the number.
5. The speed of an express train is x km/hr and the speed of an ordinary train is 12 km/hr less than that of the express
train. If the ordinary train takes one hour longer than the express train to cover a distance of 240 km, find the speed
of the express train.
6. A boat can cover 10 km up the stream and 5 km down the stream in 6 hrs. If the speed of the stream is 1.5 km/hr,
find the speed of the boat in still water.
7. Rs 480 is divided among ‘x’ children. If the number of children were 20 more, then each would have got Rs 12
less. Find ‘x’.
8. The hotel bill for a number of people for overnight stay is Rs 4800. If there were 4 more, the bill each person had to
pay would have reduced by Rs 200. Find the number of people staying overnight.
9. A train covers a distance of 90 km at a uniform speed. Had the speed been 15 km/hr more it would have taken half
an hour less for the journey. Find the original speed of the train.

FACTORISATION
1) Using remainder theorem, find the value of “a if the division of x 3 +5 x 2−ax+ 6
by (x – 1) leaves the remainder 2 a.
2) If f ( x )=2 x 3 + x 2+ bx−6 leaves a remainder 36 when divided by (x – 3), find ‘b ’. With this value of ‘b ’
factorise f (x) completely.
3) Find the value of ‘k ’, if (2 x+ 1) is a factor of 4 x 2+ kx+1 . Using value of ‘k ’, find the other factor.
4) The remainders when p x3 −q x 2−x +5 and x 3 + p x 2 +2 x−q−4
are divided by (x +1) are -3 and 10 respectively. Find the values of ‘ p’ and ‘q ’.
5) What number must be added to 2 x3 −7 x+ 2 x so that the resulting polynomial leaves the - 2 when divided by
2x–3?
6) The polynomials k x 3 +3 x2 −4 and 2 x3 −5 x+ 4 k when divided by
(x +3) leave the same remainder. Find the value of ‘k ’.
7) Show that (x – 3) is a factor of x 3−7 x 2+ 15 x −9.Hence factorise x 3−7 x 2+ 15 x −9
8) Use the remainder theorem to factorise the following expression :
3 2
2 x + x −13 x +6
9) If (x – 2)is a factor of 2 x3 −x 2−px −2 , then
(i) find the value of ‘ p’
(ii) with this value of ‘ p’, factorise the above expression completely.
10) If (x +2) and ( x – 3 ¿are the factors of x 3 +ax +b , find the values of ‘a ’ and ‘b ’. With these values of ‘a ’
and ‘b ’, factorise the given expression.
11) (x – 2) is a factor of the expression x 3 +a x 2+ bx+ 6. When this expression is divided by (x – 3),it leaves the
remainder3. Find the values of ‘a ’ and ‘b ’.
