Running EngMod2T Suite off a USB Device

There is often the requirement to have the simulation running and its results on a USB device. This
document describes how to set this up.
Note: The license will still only be valid and allow simulations to run on the computer on which it
was registered. That means part of Dat2T and the full EngMod2T will not run on another computer.
The rest of the software will as it is not node locked.
The following process assumes the software is already installed and licensed on the host computer.
Depending on the way you have set up your computer and on which version of Windows you are using
this might look a bit different. The example is done on Windows 7 Prof.

The first step is to plug the USB device in and open its window (In this case it is “Transcend (E:):
The first step is to create the folders where we want to copy the software to. You can use any names
but that makes maintenance and fault finding difficult. The next picture shows how to create the
folders:

Click on this menu

item to create a new
folder:

This then
creates a new
folder:

Next we type in a new name for the folder:

Type folder name

and then click
anywhere to save it.

If the name closes before you can give it a new name, right click on it and select “Rename”
Do this until you have created all the following folders:

Create
all these
folders.

Next we open the Dat2T folder on the host computer (Desktop or Laptop) and on the USB device:

Open the Dat2T And open the Dat2T

folder on the host folder on the USB
computer: device:
Then we hold the control button (Ctrl) down and left click on each name in the folder:

Hold the Ctrl key down

and click on each file
name to select it:

Once they are all selected we let go of the Ctrl button and left click in the selected area, we keep the
left mouse button down and drag the selected files over to the folder in the USB device:

Left click in the selected region and

while holding the left mouse button
down start dragging the selection
over to the USB device folder:
We stop when we get the selection to the folder on the USB device:

Drag the selection

until it is in the USB
device Dat2T folder:

We now release the left mouse button:

When you now release

the left mouse button
Windows copies the files
across:
When done the folder will now look as follows:

Next we need to create a shortcut in the main folder to the 2Stroke folder. We open another window
that is the main folder of the USB device, right click on the Dat2T.exe icon and while holding the right
hand button down, drag it across to the main folder:

Open the main

folder on the USB
device:

Then right click on the

Dat2T.exe icon and drag it
across to the main folder:

Once dragged across but with

the right hand button still
down you get this message:
When it is in the main folder we let go of the right hand button and a menu opens:

Releasing the right

hand button opens
this menu:

Left click on this

menu item:

After we left click on the “Create shortcuts here” item on the menu the shortcut is created:
This shortcut still points to the wrong working folder. To fix that we right click on the shortcut icon and
a new menu opens:

Right click the shortcut

to open this menu, then
left click the
“Properties” line:
Right at the bottom is an item “Properties” which we left click on which opens the following menu:

Change this value to

point to the working
folder we created:

After changing the “Start in:” edit box to “E:\2Stroke” we click the “Apply” button and then the “OK”
button and we have completed the Dat2T setup. We repeat this process for all the exe files and at the
end we have the following 6 shortcuts in the home folder of the device:
