Drafting Technology: COST ANALYSIS AND ESTIMATE

MODULE: COST ANALYSIS AND ESTIMATE

Module Introduction/Rationale:

In this module you are about to determine the required number of bars for
a stair and its possible cost.

Later on you will be required to have a computation based from your own
house plan.

Module Outcomes:

Upon completion of this module, you should be able to:

1. identify various cost of building materials
2. estimate their own basic building materials
3. practice accuracy in solving a problem regarding building
materials

Lesson Title: Stair Reinforcement Estimation

Lesson Outcomes:

At the end of this module you are expected to have:

1. identified the deformed bars in a stair
2. determined the quantity of bars in a stair
3. determined the quantity of stirrups
4. estimated the cost of materials

Key Concepts/Words (Optional) Size

of bars
Dimensions

Activate:

Estimating the reinforcement bars in a concrete stair is very crucial to your

budget.

Thus, it is necessary for you to be prepared with the right procedures on

how to make an estimate of a concrete stair.

Acquire:

1. What is a stair?

Stair is a series of steps or flight steps for passing from one level to
another.

EXAMPLE:

ITEM 1. Estimating for the Concrete Stair Rebars.

Stair Reinforcement varies. A stair is like an inclined concrete slab with

additional appendages for steps. Also, the reinforcement of a stair can be likened
to an inclined beam. It is up to the structural designer on how to design the stair
reinforcement.

The following images shows some approach in stair reinforcement:

See and study the ILLUSTRATION in the next page. It is a typical and
simple Stair Reinforcement.

The following terms are to be observe in computing stair rebars:

• Main Bar
• Temperature Bar
• Bent Bar
• Nosing Bar

Data:

Stair Width : 1.00m

Landing Width : 1.00 m
Height of each flight : 1.40 m
Run of each flight : 1.80 m
Length of each flight : 2.28 m [√(1.802 x1.402)]

1. Compute the Main Bar using the stair width, length and width of each flight
and spacing of main bar:

= 1.00 / 0.15
= 6.67, say 7 pcs
= 7 x (2.28 m + 1.00 m +1.00 m allowance)
= 29.96 x 2 flights
= 59.92 m / 5.50
= 10.89 lgth of 12mm RSB

2. Compute the Temperature Bar.

By direct counting, in each flight we have:
= 7 pcs x 1.00 m stair width x 2 flights
= 14.00 m / 6.00 m
= 2.33 lgth of 12 mm RSB

3. Compute the Nosing Bar.

By direct counting, in each flight we have:
= 7 pcs x 1.00 m stair width x 2 flights
= 14.00 m / 6.00 m
= 2.33 lgth of 10 mm RSB

4. Compute the Landing Main Bar. By direct counting we have:

= 4 pcs x 1.00 stair width / 6.00
= 0.67 lgth of 10 mm RSB

5. Compute the Bent Bar.

Use the height and run of each flight.
= 1.00 / 0.15

= 6.67, say 7 pcs

= 7 x (1.40 m + 1.80 m +1.00 m allowance)
= 29.40 x 2 flights
= 58.80 m / 5.50 m
= 10.69 lgth of 9mm RSB

6. Compute the main bar for lintel beam.

= 2 pcs x 1.00 m stair width / 6.00
= 0.33 lgth of 12 mm RSB

7. Compute the quantity of tie wire.

For the Flight:

In the section of each flight, we can directly count how many

intersections, we have:
= 14 intersections
= (7 pcs of main bar + 7 pcs of bent bar) / 2
= 7 pcs x 14 intersections
= 98 x 2 flights
= 196 intersections / 53
= 3.70 kg #16 G.I. T.W.

For the Landing:

= 7 pcs of main bar in one flight x 2 flights
= 14 pcs x 4 pcs of landing bar
= 56 / 53
= 1.06 kg #16 G.I. T.W.

For the Lintel Beam:

= 7 pcs of main bar in one flight x 2 flights
= 14 pcs x 2 pcs of main bar
= 28 / 53
= 0.53 kg #16 G.I. T.W.

Summary:

• 12 mm RSB
= 10.89 + 2.33 + 0.33
= 13.22, say 14 (lgth) pcs x Latest cost
• 10 mm RSB
= 2.33 + 0.67
= 3 (lgth) pcs x Latest cost
• 9mm RSB
= 10.69, say 11 (lgth) pcs x Latest cost
#16 G.I. T.W.
= 3.70 +1.06 + 0.53
= 5.29, say 6 (lgth) pcs x Latest cost
