In this tutorial we’re going to create a mould of an existing part, using a boolean operation.

Open the part: engine_bracket.catpart, you can download the part from Blackboard.

Insert a new partbody (Insert… > Partbody):

The new Body will be used to create a ‘block’ to get the mould shape out:

 Create a new sketch (in body.2) at the YZ-plane

 Draw a square, like shown in the picture below.
 Exit the sketcher

Create a pad from your sketch, the pad length is 60mm. See picture below:

Rename the body.2:

 Click right mouse button (MB3): Properties > feature properties > feature name
 Change the name to BLOCK_MOULD

MB3: properties > feature properties > feature name

Copy the original partbody body to a new body (see pictures below):

1. Copy the Partbody (MB3 > Copy)

2. Paste the partbody at the top level in the tree (MB3 > Paste)
3. Hide the original partbody (MB3 > hide/show)

Boolean operation: Remove body

Insert > Boolean operations > Remove

The ‘remove’ menu appears:

First select: body.3 (the part to remove from the mould block)
Then select: BLOCK_MOULD
click OK

The result should look like this:
