modern oasis, basking in the glory of attracting visitors from every corner
of the globe. Today, the city hosts some of the most spectacular buildings
and skyscrapers. Dubai also offers a variety of entertainment and
sightseeing options. ´What attracts people to Dubai is its development in
line with western technology, at the same time retaining the eastern
culture. Over the decade, Dubai has regularly found a place in the list of
top 10 most visited cities in the world.

OLD DUBAI - In the 18th century, Dubai was a small fishing and trading
village. With the increase in population, the city was divided into three
different areas. The first city district became Dejra, which had the largest
area and developed into a main business centre. The transport of people
and goods on land was carried out by donkeys and camels, and the
transport from the shore to the bank of the stream had a more demanding
and lengthy version. An essential and main source of income at the time of
the UAE's creation was oil extraction and exports. It was known to
everyone that the natural resource would sooner or later be depleted.
Almost from the beginning of the discovery of oil wealth, the rulers of the
UAE began to diversify their economy and sought other sources of income
such as industry and tourism.

In 1958, Sheikh Rashid was elected as ruler of the emirate of Dubai. He

created a plan for the future development of the city, which included
improving infrastructure related to population growth, supporting existing
services and creating new ones.

In 1959, Sheikh Rashid published a project to build an airport, which was

completed in 1961. The high interest of airlines in landing rights was no
surprise due to the expansion of the Dubai market and the increase in the
population working in the territory. In 1985, Dubai Airport became the
home base for the newly established national airline Emirates.

TODAYS DUBAI - The current ruler His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin
Rashid Maktoum continues the tradition of his family's efforts and
continues his father's legacy to make Dubai a major world city. To realize
its vision, he is creating favourable conditions for foreign investors,
presenting the emirate of Dubai as a free trade zone and an attractive
tourist destination.

Within the international market, he increases the competitiveness of the

emirate by developing information technology and IT industry. The
information projects include Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City,
Knowledge Village Dubai and, last but not least, the so-called e-
government. It is an Internet portal accessible since October 2011 and
residents can pay various licenses, fees, fines and increase your
information literacy. Dubai has also presented itself as a hub of
international finance. In February 2002, the Dubai International Financial
Centre was opened, which acts as a bridge between regional and global
financial markets. Until 1990, Dubai International Airport served mainly as
a transfer point to other countries of the world. However nowadays, the
city, together with the airport, also serves as an important tourist
destination, and the ruling family has intensified this trend by regularly
organizing the so-called Dubai Shopping Festival. Tourists at the time of
the festival can take advantage of discounts on Dubai goods, and an
interesting tradition has become the creation of the so-called Dubai
Goods. A world village that visually informs foreign visitors about culture,
crafts and products from foreign countries.
