MDM4U0 Summative Project (10%) Absolute Due date: _________________

Your Statistics Project will consist of researching one variable, two variables, and a Normal distribution
(Chapters 2, 3, and 8) to analyze the topic question that you will create.

Also, include in your report:

Based on your research, suggest 2 or 3 changes to policymakers, making society more equitable for all.

Written Report Format

Your work should be straightforward and concise.
Your report should have the following headings, and each bullet should be contained under that heading:

1. Title Page (First Page)

-Include the title of your project, your name, my name, course code, and due date.

2. Table of Contents ( Second Page)

- Listing each Section in your project.

-Using main categories with sub-categories could be useful.

3. Introduction

A paragraph describing the main topic question, sub questions, the purpose and focus of your statistics
project, and why you chose it.

Example:
The main question for this project is: "How does the level of education influence income and job satisfaction?"

Sub-questions:

• What is the average income for individuals with different education levels?
• Does job satisfaction vary with education level?
• Is there a relationship between education level and income?

4. Hypothesis
Make a hypothesis about the outcome of your research. This is just an educated guess, so it is acceptable if
you end up proving yourself wrong by the end of the report.

Section 1 - Applying various mathematical techniques in the analysis and exploration of data.

Analyzing data involving one variable.

Choose one sub-question for analyzing one variable data that includes

• Data values
• Choose one (Bar graph/Histogram),
• Choose one Frequency polygons, relative frequency polygons).
Example:

Write an Analysis (Conclusion) based on data and graphs. Do your graphs appear to follow normal distribution?
If not (Skewed) then what does it mean?

Section 2- Analyzing data involving two variables.

Choose another sub-question for analyzing two variable data. (The rest of the sub-questions can be one or
two variables data. Create bar graphs or Histograms and frequency or relative frequency polygon).

Write an Analysis (Conclusion) based on data and graphs. Do your graphs appear to follow normal
distribution? If not (Skewed) then what does it mean?

For your chosen sub-question for two-variable data,

Example:

Sub-question: Is there a relationship between education level and income?

Scatter Plot: Education Level (x-axis, discrete variable) vs. Average Income (y-axis, continuous variable).
Perform the following:

1. Linear regression (Line of best fit and coefficient of correlation ‘r’ to determine how well the line fits)
o Correlation coefficient, r, is used to analytically classify a linearcorrelation (positive/negative and
weak/moderate/strong).

2. Linear Regression and Interpolation/Extrapolation

o Find a linear regression equation.
o At least one interpolation and extrapolation must be made and explained.

3. Measures of Central Tendency

o Mean, median and mode must be calculated for your chosen sub-question in your Excel file/Sheets.
o At least two measures of central tendency (Mean, Median or Mode) must be used for a purpose and
explained in the report.
4. Measures of Spread
At least four measures of spread (standard deviation, variance, IQR (Interquartile range), z-score,
percentiles) must be calculated and at least two must be used for a purpose and explained in the
report.
5. Variables
o As variables are used/manipulated throughout your report, you must describe them as discrete,
and continuous and identify which variables are independent or dependent.
o Variables should also be labeled on each graph correctly.

6. Cause and Effect

o The relationship/factor (cause and effect, common cause factor, reverse cause-and-effect
relationship, etc.) between the variables must be fully identified and explained.
7. Bais
o Note at least one bias that could have arisen through your study and identify with
justification (sampling, non-response, measurement, response, etc.).

8. Graphs
o All graphs should be labeled and should be given an appropriate title.

Conclusion

9. Draw conclusions by summarizing your findings and relating them to your main topic question and
sub-topic questions.

 State whether your hypothesis was correct or incorrect with justification.

11. Recommendations for Policymakers:

o Increase Access to Higher Education: Provide subsidies or scholarships to low-income families to

make higher education more accessible.
o Promote Lifelong Learning: Offer incentives for continuing education and skill development
programs.
o Address Inequality: Implement policies to support job training and education for underserved
communities to bridge the income gap.

Be sure to correctly cite all your data throughout your report to avoid plagiarism.

13. Presentation in class (Submit your Slides)

• Rehearse to fit within the 5–6 minutes.

• Use simple and clear visuals to keep your audience engaged.
• Highlight only the most critical points—don’t overload your slides with text

Your Presentation slides should consist of the following components:

• Introduction -Main topic Question, Sub questions, graphs. (No calculations required)
• Brief explanation of your research
• Conclusion and avenues of further study

14. Rubrics
Please see the rubrics to understand how you will be evaluated.
