Article Writing

What is article writing?


Article writing refers to the process of creating written content for publication in
newspapers, magazines, blogs, or other platforms.

Articles are structured pieces of writing that are written with a specific purpose in
mind, such as providing information, sharing opinions, entertaining, persuading,
analyzing a topic or educating the target audience on a particular topic.

Structure of blog writing and article writing


1. Title
- The title should be catchy, relevant to the content.
- It should give an idea of what the article is about.

2. Introduction:
- Provide background information about the topic - who what when and where
- Clearly state the purpose of the article (why)

3. Body
- Organise content into paragraphs.
- Each paragraph should focus on a specific aspect or point
- Use transitional words such as furthermore, in addition to, in fact, moreover,
on the other hand,finally etc. for smooth flow between the ideas. - Support
ideas with examples, facts or personal experience

4. Conclusion:
- Summarize the key points discussed in the article's body paragraphs.
- Reinforce the main idea or thesis statement.
- End with a strong concluding statement that leaves a lasting impression on
the reader or encourages further reflection on the topic.

Style and Language Features for article writing

1. Formal or Informal Tone: Depending on the target audience and the purpose of
the article, the tone can be formal, informal, or a combination of both.

2. Language - Articles should use clear and precise language to convey


information accurately.

3. Varied Vocabulary: A good article uses a range of vocabulary. Use synonyms,


adjectives, adverbs, and descriptive language to add depth to your writing.
Blog Writing
What is a blog?
A blog is a type of website or online platform where individuals and groups regularly
publish content on specific topics. Eg: A visit to the museum, a day trip to the theme
park, places you visited during vacation etc.

Writing a blog can be a fun and creative way to express and share one's thoughts and
opinions with a wider audience.

Structure of blog writing

1. Title
- Cathy title to grab readers attention.
- Should reflect the main theme or the main idea.

2. Introduction
- Clearly state the main topic or purpose of the blog
- May include the hook, a rhetorical question, an interesting fact, or a
surprising statement related to the topic.
3. Body
- Organise content into paragraphs.
- Each paragraph should focus on a specific aspect or point
- Use transitional words such as furthermore, in addition to, in fact,
moreover, on the other hand,finally etc. for smooth flow between the
ideas.
- Support ideas with examples, facts or personal experience

4. Conclusion
- Summarise the main/key points
- Restate the main idea or thesis
- It can include a thought-provoking question, or a reflection or action

Style and Language Features of blog writing

1. Tone - Use friendly and conversational (informal) tone.


2. Use of contraction: Include contractions (e.g., can't, won't) while addressing the
reader directly (e.g., "Have you ever wondered..." “Don't forget to visit… ….) 3.
Descriptive Language - Use adjectives and vivid language to paint a picture in
readers mind.
4. First-Person Perspective
While writing a blog / an article remember to always:
- Use headings, subheadings, and bullet points to make the content easier to
read and understand.
- Check spellings, grammar, punctuation, and clarity of sentence structure. - Use
a variety of sentence structures, including simple, compound, and complex
sentences. This adds rhythm and flow to the writing.
