i) Grades for 52 statistics students from a previous test are summarised below:

i) Suppose a real estate agent has five contracts and she believes that for each contract
the probability of making a sale is 0.4.
a) Find the probability that she makes at most one sale. [ 3Marks]
b) Find the probability that she makes between two and four sales (inclusive). [4 marks]
c) Find the probability that she makes at least two sales. [3 Marks]
ii) Suppose the number of typographical errors on a single page of your book has a
Poisson distribution with parameter λ = 1/2. Calculate the probability that;
a) there is at least one error on this page. [3 Marks]
b) there are two errors on this page. [3 Marks]
c) there are at most four errors on this page. [4 Marks]
iii) If the probability of a defective bolt is 0.1. Find the mean and standard deviation. [5
marks]

i) A box contains 10 balls. Balls are selected without replacement one at a time. In how
many different ways can you select 3 balls? [4 Marks]
ii) A committee has seven members, three of who are male and four female. In how many
ways can a subcommittee be selected if it is to consist exactly of ;
iii) In a group of 20 adults, 4 out of 7 women and 2 out of 13 men wear glasses. What is
the probability that a person chosen at random from a group is a woman or someone
who wears glasses? [ 5 Marks]

i) A fair die is tossed for a very large number of times. It was observed that face 6
appeared 1, 500. Estimate how many times the die is tossed. [3 Marks]
ii) A bag contains 10 balls of which 7 are green and 3 are white. A ball is picked at
random from the bag and its colour is noted. The ball is not replaced; a second ball is
then picked out. Find the probability that;
a) The first ball is green and the second ball is white [4 Marks]
b) The balls are of different colours. [3 Marks]
iii) Suppose two fair dice are rolled. Find each of the following probabilities.
a) The first die shows a 2 or the sum is 6. [ 4 Marks]
b) The two dice show the same number. [ 3 Marks]
c) The two dice show different numbers. [ 3 Marks]
iv) A single die is tossed once. Find the probability of a 2 or 5 turning up. [5 marks]
