Math Problems and Solutions (13 to 24)

13. Deepak is twice as old as his brother Vikas. If the difference of their ages is 11 years, find their

present ages.

Let Vikas's age be x. Deepak's age is 2x.

Equation: 2x - x = 11

Solve: x = 11

Ages: Vikas: 11, Deepak: 2 * 11 = 22

Answer: Vikas is 11 years old, Deepak is 22 years old.

14. Mrs Goel is 27 years older than her daughter Rekha. After 8 years, she will be twice as old as

Rekha. Find their present ages.

Let Rekha's age be x. Mrs. Goel's age is x+27.

Equation: (x+27) + 8 = 2 * (x+8)

Solve: x+35 = 2x+16, x = 35 - 16 = 19

Ages: Rekha: 19, Mrs. Goel: 19+27 = 46

Answer: Rekha is 19 years old, Mrs. Goel is 46 years old.

15. A man is 4 times as old as his son. After 16 years, he will be only twice as old as his son. Find

their present ages.

Let the son's age be x. The man's age is 4x.

Equation: 4x + 16 = 2 * (x+16)

Solve: 4x + 16 = 2x + 32, 2x = 16, x = 8

Ages: Son: 8, Man: 4 * 8 = 32

Answer: The son is 8 years old, the man is 32 years old.

16. A man is thrice as old as his son. Five years ago, the man was four times as old as his son. Find

their present ages.

Let the son's age be x. The man's age is 3x.

Equation: 3x - 5 = 4 * (x - 5)

Solve: 3x - 5 = 4x - 20, x = 15

Ages: Son: 15, Man: 3 * 15 = 45

Answer: The son is 15 years old, the man is 45 years old.

17. After 16 years, Fatima will be three times as old as she is now. Find her present age.

Let Fatima's age be x.

Equation: x + 16 = 3x

Solve: 16 = 2x, x = 16 / 2 = 8

Answer: Fatima is 8 years old.

18. After 32 years, Rahim will be 5 times as old as he was 8 years ago. How old is Rahim today?

Let Rahim's age be x.

Equation: x + 32 = 5 * (x - 8)

Solve: x + 32 = 5x - 40, 4x = 72, x = 72 / 4 = 18

Answer: Rahim is 18 years old.

19. A bag contains 25-paisa and 50-paisa coins whose total value is Rs.30. If the number of

25-paisa coins is four times that of 50-paisa coins, find the number of each type of coins.

Let the number of 50-paisa coins be x. The number of 25-paisa coins is 4x.

Total value: 0.5x + 0.25(4x) = 30

Simplify: 0.5x + x = 30, 1.5x = 30, x = 30 / 1.5 = 20

Coins: 50-paisa: 20, 25-paisa: 4 * 20 = 80

Answer: 20 50-paisa coins, 80 25-paisa coins.

20. Five times the price of a pen is 17 more than three times its price. Find the price of the pen.

Let the price be x.

Equation: 5x = 3x + 17

Solve: 2x = 17, x = 17 / 2 = 8.5

Answer: The price of the pen is Rs.8.50.

21. The number of boys in a school is 334 more than the number of girls. If the total strength of the

school is 572, find the number of girls.

Let the number of girls be x. Boys: x + 334

Equation: x + (x + 334) = 572

Solve: 2x + 334 = 572, 2x = 238, x = 119

Answer: There are 119 girls and 119 + 334 = 453 boys.

22. The length of a rectangular park is thrice its breadth. If the perimeter of the park is 168 metres,

find its dimensions.

Let the breadth be x. Length: 3x.

Perimeter: 2(x + 3x) = 168

Solve: 8x = 168, x = 168 / 8 = 21

Dimensions: Breadth: 21m, Length: 3 * 21 = 63m

Answer: The park's dimensions are 21m by 63m.

23. The length of a rectangular hall is 5 metres more than its breadth. If the perimeter of the hall is

74 metres, find its length and breadth.

Let the breadth be x. Length: x + 5.

Perimeter: 2(x + x + 5) = 74

Solve: 4x + 10 = 74, 4x = 64, x = 16

Dimensions: Breadth: 16m, Length: 16 + 5 = 21m

Answer: The hall's dimensions are 16m by 21m.

24. A wire of length 86 cm is bent in the form of a rectangle such that its length is 7 cm more than its

breadth. Find the length and the breadth of the rectangle.

Let the breadth be x. Length: x + 7.

Perimeter: 2(x + x + 7) = 86

Solve: 4x + 14 = 86, 4x = 72, x = 72 / 4 = 18

Dimensions: Breadth: 18cm, Length: 18 + 7 = 25cm

Answer: The rectangle's dimensions are 18cm by 25cm.
