(i) A ball of mass m is dropped freely from point A. It is given that AB = BC = CD = h. If the
acceleration due to gravity at the given place is g, then what will be its: [3]

(ii) The diagram below shows a pulley arrangement: [4]


(a) Copy the diagram and mark the direction of tension on each strand of the string.
(b) What is the velocity ratio of the arrangement?
(c) If the tension acting on the string is T, then what is the relationship between T and effort E?
(d) If the free end of the string moves through a distance x, find the distance by which the load

(a) What is the potential energy of the pendulum at the position B?
(b) What is the total mechanical energy at point C?
(c) What is the speed of the bob at the position A when released from B? (Take g = 10 ms-2
and there is no loss of energy.)

(i) A uniform half metre ruler balances horizontally on a knife edge at 29 cm mark when a

(i) A uniform meter scale is balanced at 40 cm mark, when weights of 25 gf and 10 gf are
suspended at 5 cm mark and 75 cm mark respectively. Calculate weight of meter scale.[3]
(ii) What should be the angle of incidence for a ray of light suffering a minimum deviation of
300 through an equilateral prism?

(iii) The diagram below shows the path of light passing through a right-angled prism of critical
angle 420. Also discuss the condition for critical angle and total internal reflection. [4]
