❖ What I Need to Know

The module presents the following:

Content standard

• The learner demonstrates understanding of time,

standard measures of length, mass and capacity and
area using square-tile units.
Performance standard
• The learner is able to apply knowledge of time,
standard measures of length, weight, and capacity,
and area using square-tile units in mathematical
problems and real-life situations.
Most essential learning competency
• The learner compares the following unit of measures:
a. length in meters or centimeters
b. mass in grams and kilograms

❖ What I Know

A. Direction: Compare the length using >, <, or =.

1. 200 centimeters 250 centimeters
2. 400 centimeters 100 centimeters
3. 7 meters _ 9 meters
4. 3 meters _ 2 meters

1
B. Direction: Compare the mass using >, <, or =.
1. 3 kilograms 1 kilogram
2. 6 kilograms 4 kilograms
3. 1000 grams 900 grams
4. 250 grams 300 grams

❖ What’s In

Direction: Read the story and answer the questions that

follow.
Sofia is a 7 year old girl whose height is 125
centimeters and weighs 20 kilograms while Joemar is an
8 year old boy whose height is 150 centimeters and
weighs 24 kilograms.
1. Who are the children in the situation?
2. How tall is Sofia?
3. How tall is Joemar?
4. What is the weight of Sofia in centimeters?
5. What is the weight of Joemar in centimeters?
6. Compare their height and weight.

❖ What’s New
A. Direction: Compare the length using >, <, or =.
1. 350 centimeters 450 centimeters
2. 600 centimeters 200 centimeters
2
3. 9 meters 6 meters
4. 5 meters 8 meters
Direction: Compare the mass using >, <, or =.
1. 6 kilograms 8 kilograms
2. 2 kilograms 1 kilogram
3. 700 grams 400 grams
4. 500 grams 250 grams

❖ What Is It
➢ What are the symbols used in comparing numbers?
➢ How many centimeters are there in meter?
➢ How many grams are there in kilogram?

❖ What More
Direction: Compare the mass and length using >, <, or =.
1. mass of guavas -
400 grams 500 grams
2. mass of rice -
2 kilograms 1 kilogram
3. length of a stick -
80 centimeters 50 centimeters
4. length of a lace -
1 meter 3 meters

3
❖ What I Have Learned

In comparing numbers
➢ Step 1. Always start from the digits at the
highest place value.
➢ Step 2. Compare the digits at this place value
in both numbers.
➢ Step 3. If the digits are equal, move one place
value to the right, and repeat Step 2

❖ What I Can Do

Direction: Read the story and compare the numbers

that follow.

Aling Nena and Aling Mimi went to the market. Aling

Nena bought 3 000 grams of bangus, 500 grams of chicken
and 25 kilograms of rice while Aling Mimi bought 2 500
grams of bangus, 1 kilogram of chicken and 30 kilograms
of rice. After that, they went home walking. Aling Nena
walked 500 meters while Aling Mimi walked 400 meters in
order to reach their homes.

4
Compare the mass of following food and the distance
going home.
Aling Nena Aling Mimi
3000 grams of 2500 grams of
bangus bangus
500 grams of 1kilogram of
chicken chicken
25 kilograms of rice 30 kilograms of rice
walked 500 meters walked 400 meters

❖ Assessment

Direction: Compare the mass and length using >, <, or =.

1. 600 grams 800 grams
2. 1.5 kilograms 1500 grams
3. 4 meter _ 2 meters
4. 100 centimeters 500 centimeters
