DAY-1
HOW DOES MUSIC
PAINT YOUR MIND’S
CANVAS IN JUST ONE
WORD ?
MUSIC THEORY
Music theory is basically the study of the
practices and possibilities of music. It
explores how music works and why it
sounds the way it does. In simple words ,
Music theory is like the grammar of music.

When musicians learn music theory, they

study scales, chords, melody creation,
rhythm, and timing. It's like learning the
rules of a language to speak and
understand it fluently.
THE MUSICAL ALPHABET- NOTES

In music, notes are the sounds we hear. They are

named after letters from A to G, and the pattern
repeats. For example, after G comes A again. Each
note has a specific pitch, which is how high or low it
sounds. Notes can also have different lengths, like
whole notes (long) and half notes (half as long as
whole notes).
OCTAVES
Octaves are a special
relationship between notes.
When two notes are an octave
apart, they have the same letter
name but different pitches. For
example, A and the next A up or
down are one octave apart.
SHARPS AND FLATS
Sharps (#) and Flats (b) are symbols used to
alter the pitch of notes, enriching the variety
and expression within melodies and
harmonies

For example :
A sharp (#) raises the
pitch of a note by a
half step. This means
the note becomes
slightly higher in
pitch compared to its
natural form.

A flat (b) lowers the pitch of a note by

a half step. This makes the note
slightly lower in pitch compared to its
natural form.
CHORDS
Chords are groups of notes played together that
create harmony in music. They are like building
blocks that give songs their emotional depth and
structure.
STRUCTURE OF CHORDS
A chord is typically made up of three or more notes played
simultaneously. The most basic chord is a triad, consisting of
three notes—usually the root note (the main note of the
chord), a third (a note that is either a major or minor third
interval above the root), and a fifth (a note that is a perfect
fifth interval
above the root)
BEAT AND TEMPO

"Beat" commonly refers to a pattern or rhythm played by

drums. It also means a regular, repeating pulse that
underlies a musical pattern, like when people tap their
foot to the beat.

The speed at which your patterns play back is

called the tempo. Tempo is measured in beats
per minute or BPM. So if we talk about a piece of
music being "at 120 BPM," we mean that there are
120 beats (pulses) every minute.
DYNAMICS AND ITS IMPORTANCE
Dynamics in music refer to the variations in
loudness, ranging from soft (piano) to loud (forte).
These changes add emotional depth, contrast, and
expression to a piece, making it more engaging and
impactful. Proper use of dynamics helps convey the
intended mood and enhances the listener's overall
experience.
