Class : 11 Assignment

Sub: Chemistry
General Instructions:

i. Assignment should be written in A4 sheet.

ii. Refer the chapter thermodynamics in the text book.

1. The value of ΔfHӨ for NH3 is – 91.8 KJ mol–1. Calculate enthalpy

change for the following reaction:

2NH3 (g) → N2 (g) +3H2 (g)

2. The molar enthalpy of vaporization of acetone is less than that of

water. Why?

3. The enthalpy of vapourisation of CCl4 is 30.5 kJ mol–1. Calculate the

heat required for the vapourisation of 284 g of CCl 4 at constant

pressure. (Molar mass of CCl4 = 154 g mol–1).

4. An ideal gas is allowed to expand against a constant pressure of 2 bar

from 10 L to 50 L in one step. Calculate the amount of work done by

the gas. If the same expansion were carried out reversibly, will the

work done be higher or lower than the earlier case? (Given that 1 L bar

= 100 J).

5. When 1g of liquid naphthalene(C 10H8) solidifies, 150 J of heat evolved.

What is the enthalpy of fusion of naphthalene?

6. Calculate the maximum work obtained when 0.75 mol of an ideal gas
expands isothermally and reversible at 27 0C from a volume of 15L to
25L.
7. When liquid benzene is oxidised at constant pressure at 300 K, the
change in enthalpy is -3728 kJ. What is the change in internal energy
at the same temperature?

8. The enthalpy of formation of methane at constant pressure and 300 K

is – 78.84 kJ. What will be the enthalpy of formation at constant

volume?
9. When two moles of C2H6(g) are burnt, 3129 kj of heat is liberated.
Calculate the heat of formation of C2H6(g). ∆fH for C02(g) and H20(l)

are-393.5 and -286 kj mol-1 respectively.

10. Calculate the enthalpy of formation of methane, given that the

enthalpies of combustion of methane, graphite and hydrogen are

890.2 kJ, 393.4 kJ and 285.7 kJ/mol respectively.
