Central University of Gujarat (CUG) was established under the Central Universities Act, 2009 (No.
25 of 2009) to generate and disseminate advanced knowledge by providing instructional and research
facilities, promoting innovation in teaching-learning process and research, establishing linkages with
industries for application of science and technology and educate and train human resources for the
development of the country. The University has territorial jurisdiction over the whole of the State of
Gujarat and admits students on all-India basis. The University is looking for qualified, accomplished
and committed faculty members who believe in institution-building and have a passion for academic
excellence through teaching and quality research. Online Applications are invited from eligible and
suitable Indian nationals for direct recruitment to faculty positions in various Schools / Departments
of Studies on regular basis on all India basis. Following are the crucial dates for application:

3. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: Eligibility A or B
A.
(i) A Master‘s degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale wherever the
grading system is followed) in a concerned/relevant/allied subject from an Indian
University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited Foreign University.
(ii) Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National
Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC or the CSIR or who are or have been awarded
a Ph. D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards
and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 and their
amendments from time to time as the case may be exempted from NET:
Provided, the candidates registered for the Ph.D. programme prior to July 11, 2009, shall be
governed by the provisions of the then existing Ordinances/By-laws/Regulations of the Institution
awarding the degree and such Ph.D. candidates shall be exempted from the requirement of NET
for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in
Universities/Colleges/Institutions subject to the fulfilment of the following conditions:-
a) The Ph.D. degree of the candidate has been awarded in a regular mode;
b) The Ph.D. thesis has been evaluated by at least two external examiners;
c) An open Ph.D. viva voce of the candidate has been conducted;
d) The Candidate has published two research papers from his/her Ph.D. work, out of which at
least one is in a refereed journal;
e) The candidate has presented at least two papers based on his/her Ph.D. work in
conferences/seminars sponsored/funded/supported by the UGC / ICSSR/ CSIR or any similar
agency.
The fulfilment of these conditions is to be certified by the Registrar or the Dean (Academic Affairs) of
the University concerned.
Note: NET shall also not be required for such Masters Programmes in disciplines for which NET
is not conducted by the UGC, CSIR.

B. The Ph.D. degree has been obtained from a Foreign University/Institution with a ranking
among top 500 in the World University Ranking (at any time) by any one of the following:
(i) Quacquarelli Symonds (QS)
(ii) The Times Higher Education (THE)
(iii) The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of the Shanghai Jiao Tong
University (Shanghai).
Note: The Academic score as specified in Appendix II (Table 3A) for universities (as per UGC
Regulations, 2018) shall be considered for short-listing of the candidates for interview
only, and the selections shall be based only on the performance in the interview.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS, ESSENTIAL INFORMATION AND CLARIFICATIONS:
1. Online Application Form is available on https://curec.samarth.ac.in and for further
information detailed advertisement is also available on the University website
www.cug.ac.in.
2. Incomplete application in any respect shall not be considered.
3. Candidates who wish to apply for more than one post shall be required TO SUBMIT
SEPARATE ONLINE APPLICATIONS ALONG WITH SEPARATE ONLINE
APPLICATION PROCESSING FEES.
4. Applicants are advised to submit the documents related to their Change of Name (if applicable)
(i.e. Marriage Certificate, Gazette for Name Change, Aadhar Card).
5. The Last Date for receipt of Online Applications is 09/01/2025 till 5:30 p.m.
6. The Experience and Qualification shall be reckoned as last date of submission of Online
Application.
7. Applicants are advised to submit the applications to the University well in advance without
waiting for the last date to avoid any delay due to other unforeseen events or circumstances. The
University shall not be responsible for any delay at any stage.
8. Applicants must produce original testimonials, certificates / educational qualifications and other
documents at the time of interview, if called.
9. The applicants must ensure that he / she fulfils the eligibility conditions for the post applying for.
10. The candidates who are eligible as per the UGC Regulations, 2018 (Minimum Qualifications for
Appointment of Teachers and Other Academic Staff in University), only need apply.
11. Candidates already in service must submit the NOC from their employer. In case the
applicants are in service and delay is expected in getting the NOC from of the employer
concerned, the applicants may submit an online application along with all enclosures. In this case
the applicant shall have to submit a 'NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE' along with Vigilance
Clearance Certificate in a sealed cover from his/her employer to the University at the time of
interview / Examination.
12. Candidates who have been awarded Ph.D. from foreign University should enclose “Equivalence
Certificates” issued by the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, without which their
candidature shall not be considered, and application shall be summarily rejected.
13. For Ph.D. Degrees:
i. The candidates who are or have been awarded a Ph.D. degree prior to July, 11 2009
shall need to enclose a copy of the certificate to the effect that the awarding
University has awarded Ph.D. degree as per UGC (Minimum standard and
procedure of awards of M.Phil./Ph.D. degree) Regulation, 2009, 2016 or 2018.
ii. The marks sheet regarding completion of course work in Ph.D. shall need to be
enclosed, if applicable.
14. The time taken by the candidates to acquire M.Phil. and / or Ph.D. degree shall not be considered
as teaching / research experience to stake claim for appointment to the teaching positions.
15. Excellent academic background, high quality publications, potential to get research funding from
Government agencies and industries, appropriate academic professional activities undertaken,
and a good innovative teaching record would be some of the important criteria for selection.

16. The University reserves the right to fill or not to fill any or all the posts, without assigning any
reason and no notice shall be issued in this regard.
17. The University shall verify the antecedents and documents submitted by candidates at any time,
at the time of appointment or during the tenure of service. In case, it is detected that the
documents submitted by the candidates are fake or the candidates have undesirable clandestine
antecedents / background and have suppressed the said information, his / her services shall be
liable to be terminated.
18. In case of any inadvertent mistake in the process of selection which may be detected at any stage
even after the issuance of appointment letter, the University reserves the right to modify /
withdraw / cancel any communication made to the candidates.
19. The reservations / relaxations policy for SC / ST / OBC / PwBD / EWS Candidates shall be
provided as per the existing UGC / Govt. of India policy.
20. In case of reserved posts, a relaxation of 5% shall be allowed at the Bachelor’s as well as at the
Master’s level for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe / Other
Backward Classes (OBC) (Non-creamy Layer) / Differently-abled ((a) Blindness and low vision;
(b) Deaf and Hard of Hearing; (c) Locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured,
dwarfism, acid-attack victims and muscular dystrophy; (d) Autism, intellectual disability,
specific learning disability and mental illness; (e) Multiple disabilities from amongst persons
under (a) to (d) including deaf-blindness) for the purpose of eligibility and assessing good
academic record for direct recruitment. The eligibility marks of 55% marks (or an equivalent
grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the
categories mentioned above are permissible, based only on the qualifying marks without
including any grace mark procedure.
21. A relaxation of 5% shall be provided, (from 55% to 50% of the marks) to the Ph.D. Degree
holders who have obtained their Master’s Degree prior to19 September, 1991.
22. Reservation for SC, ST, OBC, EWS and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities shall be as per
existing Government of India norms as amended from time to time. Candidates applying for the
reserved posts should clearly state to which category they belong. They must also enclose a
Certificate issued by Tahsildar/ Mamlatdar / Mandal Revenue Officer / Equivalent authority as
proof to this effect without which the application shall not be considered. In case the candidates
want to claim benefits under the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) category, the
candidates’ relevant disability should be not less than 40%. Proof to this effect (Annexure IV-I,
IV-II, IV-III), must be enclosed with the application, without which the application shall be
treated as ‘General (unreserved)’.
23. The person with Degree of Disability of 40% and above are eligible for applying for the posts
earmarked for persons with benchmark disabilities as under:

24. Candidates seeking reservation under SC / ST category are required to submit certificate in the
format prescribed by the Government of India, Department of Personnel & Training (Annexure-
I).
25. Candidates seeking reservation under OBC category are required to submit certificate in the
format prescribed by the Government of India, Department of Personnel & Training (Annexure-
II).
26. Candidates applying for the post(s) reserved for OBC, shall submit a self-attested copy of valid
caste certificate specifically mentioning Creamy Layer-exclusion in the format prescribed by
Govt. of India, issued by competent authority, vide Column 3 of GOI Dept. of Personnel and
Training O.M. No. 36012/22/93-Estt.(SCT) dated 8.9.1993 and modified vide DoPT’s O.M. No.
36033/3/2004-Estt.(Res) dated 9.3.2004, subsequently revised vide O.M. No.36033/3/2004-
Estt.(Res) dated 14.10.2008. The Caste Certificate must be in the format as prescribed by the
Govt. of India vide OM No. 36036/2/2013- Estt (Res.) dated 30/05/2014.
27. EWS vacancies are tentative and subject to further directives of GoI and outcome of any
litigation. The appointment is provisional and its subject to the Income and Asset certificate
being verified through proper channel and if the verification reveals that the claim to belong to
EWS is fake / false, the services shall be terminated forthwith without assigning any further
reasons and without prejudice to such further action as may be taken under the provision of the
Indian Penal Code (IPC) for production of fake / false certificate. The Income and Asset
Certificate (Annexure-III) issued by any one of the authorities mentioned in the prescribed
format as given in Annexure-III shall only be accepted as proof of candidate’s claim as
belonging to EWS.
28. The qualifications and other conditions prescribed in the present advertisement are subject to the
regulations/norms stipulated by the UGC / MOE from time to time.
29. Under the term ‘good academic record’ the candidates must have obtained at least 55% marks
(or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) at the Master’s
degree level, or an equivalent degree from an Indian / Foreign University; and at least 50%
marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) at the
Bachelor’s degree level or an equivalent degree from an Indian / Foreign University.
30. The prescribed qualifications and experience are minimum and the mere fact that a candidate
possesses the same shall not entitle him / her for being called for interview.
31. The University reserves the right to restrict the candidates to be called for interview to a
reasonable number based on qualifications and experience higher than the minimum prescribed
as decided by duly constituted Scrutiny Committee(s) and approved by the competent authority.
Call letters for attending interview shall be sent only to the short-listed candidates by E-
mail only. No correspondence shall be entertained with applicants who are not short-listed
to be called for interview.
32. Canvassing in any form on behalf of or by any candidate shall disqualify him/her from being
considered.
33. Selection shall be made on the basis of candidates’ overall record and performance in the
interview. The University may adopt seminar / colloquium and/or any other mode as a method of
selection.

34. The teaching experience shall be considered only after the date of fulfilling the minimum
educational qualification as required for the post(s). The teaching experience shall be considered
in accordance with UGC Regulations 2018 and the guidelines are as under:
Guidelines regarding consideration of teaching experience
A. Educational qualification possessed by applicant at the time of applying for his/her previous
appointment must be in accordance with the then prevailing UGC Regulations as required
for the previous post held.
H. Copy of NOC from present employer (Only for applications forwarded through Proper
Channel) is required for appearing in the interview, if the applicant has applied through
proper channel which must be submitted even at the time of interview (If shortlisted for
interview).
I. The Experience Certificate/s must have a clear mention of designation/post held, nature of
employment (Regular/Ad-hoc/Temporary/Contractual etc.), Pay Scale/Consolidated Salary,
duration of experience and a certification to the effect that the appointment has been made
through proper selection procedure as per relevant UGC Regulations. Otherwise, Experience
Certificate shall not be taken into consideration for the post of Professor / Associate
Professor / Assistant Professor.
J. The Experience Certificate must be issued by the concerned Competent Authority in case of
applicant being University teacher and Principal/Director in case of applicant being
college/institution teacher.

K. The articles/papers published in Journals as per the UGC Regulations shall be considered for
calculating Academic and Research Score (for Associate Professor & Professor) and
academic/research score (for Assistant Professor) accordingly. The journals without ISSN
Number shall not be considered for calculation of Academic and Research Score. Note:
Kindly read General Instructions no. 35 for publications.
L. The books/edited books in which the applicant has published their chapters must have ISBN
number. The psychological test (containing tool/test as well as manual of test) published by
the applicant must have ISBN number for giving academic/research score and API score
equivalent to that of a book/edited book.
35. The "UGC Approved List of Journals" has been replaced with the new "UGC-CARE Reference
list of Quality Journals" and with effect from 14.06.2019, the same shall be considered
prospectively wherever applicable. Further, research publications on or after 14.06.2019 shall be
considered only if published in the journals included in the "UGC-CARE Reference list of
Quality Journals" wherever applicable.
36. The selected candidates shall be appointed under a written contract as per University / UGC
norms.
37. Every person appointed permanently to a post in the University by direct recruitment, shall be on
probation in such post for a period of one year in the first instance, provided that the appointing
authority may, in any individual case, extend the period of probation to such extent as it may
deem necessary, the reasons thereof to be recorded in writing.
38. Where a person has not completed his period of probation satisfactorily, the appointing authority
may terminate his services under the University without notice and assigning any reason thereof.
39. The medium of instructions in respect of all courses conducted in the School, Centres and
Department, admitted to the privileges of the University shall be English, except in cases of
studies / research in languages.
40. The recruitment to the advertised posts shall be carried out in accordance with the prevalent
University / UGC / GOI norms.
41. Age of superannuation for all the positions shall be as per UGC / Govt. of India norms.

42. All the appointees including the in-service candidates shall be governed by the New Pension
Scheme (NPS) introduced by Govt. of India.
43. The University reserves the right:
a) To withdraw the advertisement either partly or wholly at any time without assigning any
reason to this effect.
b) To fill or not to fill up some or all the posts advertised for any reasons whatsoever.
c) To increase / decrease the number of posts after due procedure as per directions of UGC
from time to time.
44. The University shall not be responsible for any loss of e-mail, loss of any communication
due to wrong address provided by the candidates.
45. No TA / DA shall be paid for attending interview. However, for outstation SC / ST / PwBD
candidate’s second-class single railway to and fro fare on the shortest route shall be reimbursed
after attending the interview. This is not admissible to SC / ST / PwBD candidates who are
already employed in the Central / State Government / Autonomous bodies, etc.
46. Call Letters and other correspondence for attending the interview, etc., shall be sent to the
eligible candidates by email only and web notification in this regards shall be displayed on
the University website.
47. In case of any dispute / ambiguity that may occur in the process of selection, the decision of the
Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Gujarat in all matter relating to eligibility, acceptance or
rejection of applications, mode of selection, conduct of examination / interview shall be final and
no query or correspondence shall be entertained in this connection from any individual or his/
her agency.
48. Candidates, who have obtained degrees or diplomas or certificates for various courses from any
Institution declared fake / derecognised by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi shall
not be eligible for being considered for recruitment to the posts advertised.
49. The applications received shall be scrutinized as per guidelines published in UGC Regulations,
2018.
50. The character of a person for direct recruitment to the service must be such as to render him/her
suitable in all respects for appointment to the service. Persons dismissed by the Union
Government or by a State Government or by a Local Authority or a Government Corporation
owned or controlled by the Central Government or State Government shall be deemed to be
ineligible for appointment.
51. No person shall be recruited unless he / she is in good mental and physically fit and free from
any physical defect that is likely to interfere with the efficient performance of his official duties
except PwBD (Divyang Candidates). If selected and appointed, he/she shall be required to
produce a medical fitness certificate from medical board as specified by the University.
52. Errors and omissions in notification and selection process are subject to corrections as per the
rules and regulations of University / UGC / GOI.
53. As per Act, Statutes and Rules of the University, the appointing authority for all regular teaching
posts is Executive Council of the University.
54. The online applications processing fee is non-refundable, and no enquiries shall be entertained in
this regard by the University.

55. Candidates in their own interest are advised to check regularly the University website
www.cug.ac.in. They should also regularly check their email account for updates.
56. The terms and conditions of appointment shall be communicated to the candidate in the
form of “offer of appointment” to selected candidates. If the candidate does not accept the
terms and conditions mentioned in the offer of appointment within the stipulated time, the
offer shall be treated as withdrawn.
57. In case of any dispute, suit or legal proceeding against the University, the jurisdiction shall be
restricted to Hon’ble High Court of Gujarat, Ahmedabad.
58. Amendments / changes if any in the advertisement shall be published only on the University
website www.cug.ac.in.

FORMAT FOR SC/ST CERTIFICATE
A candidate who claims to belong to one of the Scheduled Caste or the Scheduled Tribes should
submit in support of his claim an attested/certified copy of a certificate in the form given below, from
the District Officer or the sub-Divisional Officer or any other officer as indicated below of the District
in which his parents (or surviving parent) ordinarily reside who has been designated by the State
Government concerned as competent to issue such a certificate. If both his parents are dead, the officer
signing the certificate should be of the district in which the candidate himself ordinarily resides
otherwise than for the purpose of his own education. Wherever photograph is an integral part of the
certificate, the Corporation would accept only attested photocopies of such certificates and not any
other attested or true copy.
(The format of the certificate to be produced by Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates
applying for appointment to posts under Government of India.)
