9.2 Rearrangement of Utilities

To perform the activities, the obstruction from the tunnel utility line in front of cross
passage location needs to be re-arranged to install the grout mixing & pump unit and
drilling machine for the ground treatment works. The utility line passing along the
tunnels are grout pipeline (Liquid A & Liquid B), water pipeline, dewatering line,
compressed air line, electrical and communication cable & Fire hydrant line. These air,
water and grout utility lines shall be shifted using hoses and passed under the working
platform and Electrical and communication cables shall be taken over the working
platform.

9.3 Installation of Ramp

The Ramp should be installed or prepared to carry out the ground improvement
activities simultaneously without obstructing the TBM Tunnelling works as shown in
the figure below.

9.4 Preparation of Working Platform

Upon the completion of survey, marking & rearrangement of pipeline, cable line,
preparation of ramp, start erection of staging and scaffolding arrangement for
installation of grout mixing & pumping unit on one side of the cross passage segment
location.

9.5 Pre-drilling in Segments and Primary Grouting

It is proposed to use the percussion hand drilling machine to drill through the provision
provided in segment type C & primary grouting area. The pre-drilling shall be carried
out to ascertain the site-specific geology/ soil strata condition. Further install the plate
packers and ball valve to control the water seepage in case of water ingress through
holes.

9.6 Installation of Rotary drilling machine

Make the position of rotary drilling machine frame DD HD 30 and fix the drilling frame
with the anchor bolts then align the angle of holding frame in both plains. Then install
the Hilty drilling machine OD200 to the holding frame I strand. Fix the drilling rod to the
rotary drilling machine.

9.7 Grouting

Cement & Sodium silicate solution shall be used as grouting materials. The grouting
criteria are based on the in-situ soil conditions and are dependent on the void ratio and
the overburden pressure at each layer. The W/C ration will be varied from 4 to 2 based
on previous experience and site conditions.

9.7.1 Drill Sequence:

It is preferred to drill a hole & grout the same before drilling the hole in the same plane/
adjacent location to avoid the blocking of drill hole by flow of grout. Drill holes as shown
in the sequence.

9.7.2 Grout Procedure:

This is permeation grouting technique into a soil stratum to improve its strength and
water seepage control. The drilling will be carried out in soil strata after coring of
segments. Sodium silicate and cement slurry will be injected through that grout hole.

For ground improvement method drilling will be applied and grouting simultaneously
through drilling rods.

1) Drilling into the surrounding soil for 1.0 – 1.5 m each stage.
2) Inject cement / sodium silicate grout with pressure up to site condition with equal
flow rate.
3) Retrieve the drill rods
4) Change position to next drilling point and repeat process
