13. An ammeter of resistance 0.6 Ω can measure current upto 1.0 A. Calculate:
(i) The shunt resistance required to enable the ammeter to measure current upto 5.0 A
(ii) The combined resistance of the ammeter and the shunt.

the line?

Long Answer Questions: (1×5=5)

17.(i) Using Ampere’s circuital law, obtain an expression for the magnetic field along the
axis of a current carrying solenoid of length l and having N number of turns.
(ii) Two identical circular wires P and Q each of radius R and carrying current ‘I’ are
kept in perpendicular planes such that they have a common centre as shown in the
figure. Find the magnitude and direction of the net magnetic field at the common
centre of the two coils.

18.(i) A particle of mass 2 x 10 kg and charge 2 µC enters into a uniform electric field of 5
× 105 NC-1, moving with a velocity of 10 ms -1 in a direction opposite to that of the field.

(ii) A square loop of side 20 cm carrying current of 1A is kept near an infinite long
straight wire carrying a current of 2A in the same plane as shown in the figure.

current carrying conductor.
(A) Both Assertion and reason are true and reason is correct explanation of
assertion.(B) Assertion and reason both are true but reason is not the
correct explanation of assertion.(C) Assertion is true, reason is false.(D)
Assertion is false, reason is true.
1.Assertion(A) :Magnetic moment is measured in Joule/Tesla or Amp.m.
Reason(R):Joule/Tesla is equivalent to Amp.m2
2Assertion(A):When current is represented by a straight line, magnetic field will
be circular.
Reason(R):According to Fleming’s left hand rule, direction of force is parallel
to the magnetic field
3Assertion(A) :Work done by magnetic field is not equal to zero.
Reason(R):The kinetic energy of charged particle moving in a uniform
magnetic field does not change.
4Assertion(A) :A galvanometer is said to be more sensitive if it shows large
deflection for small amount of current.
Reason(R):The radial magnetic field is created by using cylindrical magnetic
poles.
5Assertion(A) :The Magnetic field at the ends of a very long current carrying
solenoid is half of that at the centre.
Reason(R):If the solenoid is sufficiently long, the field within it is uniform.
6Assertion : Torque on the coil is the maximum, when coil is suspended in a
radial magnetic field.
Reason : The torque tends to rotate the coil on its own axis.
7.Assertion : A charge particle is released from rest in magnetic field, then it
will move in a circular path
Reason : Work done by magnetic field is zero.
8Assertion : Resistance of an ideal voltmeter should be infinite.
Reason : The lower resistance of the voltmeter gives a reading lower than the
actual potential difference across the terminals
9.Assertion : Magnetic field interacts with a moving charge only.
Reason : Moving charge produces a magnetic field.
10Assertion: No force is exerted on stationary charge in magnetic field.
Reason: A stationary source does not produce any magnetic field to interact
with an external magnetic field.
